Hey guys ... hoping someone can help me . Fiat bravo 1.4 active sport model 2009... I put it into garage for what I thought was 2 simple bulb changes but turns out to be a nightmare . Garage says there is no power to back and front side light ..after checking obvious fuses etc and having car in twice plugging into diagnostic etc they are baffled !! .. Every other light is working Any help would be appreciated thanks .

Hi, and welcome to FF,

not exactly a common fault..,
options will be;

1, earth fault - trace and clean
2, supply fault - trace and rectify..,
could be wiring / switching / or even CANBUS / BODY ECU error..,

what kind of garage did the work.., have you had any other issues / work done lately..??,

Hi Charlie.
Thankyou for replying to me . The garage i use is just a local every day place ... mot.s services tyres repairs etc . I've had a few bulbs replaced as recent by auto shop (every 3 weeks or so ) on the back but they do keep blowing , shop says damp was getting in .This time 2 bulbs went so thought I'd take to garage instead . No luck at just changing them as we found out . Recent work is discs and pads and my drivers door was stuck so a new.part was ordered and repaired ? He tried plugging it in to 2 diagnostic.machines today but no further forward .

You could try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, then reconnect. That will reset the ECU's so may help.

It sounds like a wiring fault..
Sammi42 it is worth a try disconnecting the battery power for a while...as its free

But it does sound as if there is another issue

Let us know how it goes

Were the non-working bulbs actually blown? If they were, it may be a failure mode that generates excess current, which is detected by the body computer, which then cuts off power to protect itself/wiring. It then can't detect new bulbs.

I have a circuit breaker on my home lighting which trips when a 60W candle bulb blows, so that failure mode is realistic!

I had similar happen to me when I changed a brake light bulb. Took the old out on the right side, put new in, turned back on and no lights at all on right side.

Turned out to be a dodgy bulb, changed it for a different new bulb and voila it all worked

Might not be it, but that's what happened to me (Y)

Hi, any news..??:)

if it's REALLY damp in the lens then it can shatter the glass( been there..)

modern car wiring is "intelligent" - so not just a few cables with power at one end, and a bulb at the other...,

basically a micro computer send out signals to certain light to turn on and off, AND it monitors current.etc

so if it sees anything "unusual" it can do weird things.

IF you are no further forward.. I'd start by removing the bulbs you've changed and double-checking they are the correct grade - compare with handbook..,;)

Hi everyone ... what a nightmare this is ...
Garage eventually after plugging car into 3rd diagnostic machine found where the fault was. The auto shop I'd normally purchase the bulbs had been fitting the wrong ones they reckon which has caused the computer in car to partly shut down . Problem was rectified and new bulbs were put in .Got in car this morning to find the bulb warning light on again except it's the opposite side this time but the same lights being front sidelight and back light ?car back to garage tomorrow .

hi, :)
some progress at least,
are the bulb supplier paying for this work..??

as I said before.. the car "monitors" the power used.. so if the wrong bulbs are fitted-then it'll cause problems..,
I'd check ALL of the main bulbs - before wasting time and money on more garage labour

Well bit of a strange one, car sorted itself out so didn't need to go into garage again . My bulb light went out by itself and all lights working again. Will stick to garage in future for replacement bulbs I think . Thanks all !! ?
