Hi, I'm new to this forum, but I've been a Fiat 124 fan for about 30 years. At different times I've had 3 different cars and currently I'm modifying my son's 124.
I have been a car guy all my life and right now I'm a retired Airline pilot for the last 10 years.
I have had a few issues with the 124 and they were mainly the transmission. I always thought the 1st gear was too low and the engine was short of power. While I was researching a solution to the issues, something special happened, my neighbor was T-boned in his 86 Mazda RX-7.
I didn't take me long to figure out that the Rotary and transmission from the Mazda, would fit in the space I had in the Fiat.
That swap was done about 10 years ago and I'm sorry to say, was done quickly. There were issues and my son wouldn't stop driving it long enough to allow me to fix them. Fast forward to present day and I'm doing a total rebuild of the car. I know there will be people who won't like my idea of swapping the drive train but if the idea of having 160 HP instead of 95 appeals to you, I may be able to help.
