Hi all!

New member, but a huge FIAT fan for a number of years now! :)

I'm a recent university grad still looking for a permanent full-time job (education / museum work), but I've always wanted to import a classic FIAT 500 as a "weekend/summer" car. I still love them to death, but lately, the FIAT 126 has risen up as a nice alternative. Yes, the looks are a bit more "chunky" and not as classy, but it would be pretty much the same experience at a cheaper price as they don't seem to be as popular or considered by enthusiasts as often, more of them were built and, as a plus, a lot of the parts are compatible with the 500 and vice versa!

I'd probably go for a later Polish 126p EL/ELX (1994-2000?) just to get some amenities like an engine already built for unleaded gas, an electric blower fan for the heater (Canadian Fall seasons can still be pretty chilly!) and rear fog/reverse lights. A rear window defrost would be nice too, although I wouldn't be THAT upset without it!

Just posting this as a "feeler".....it will be awhile before I am able to buy one, but I would hate to have to buy sight unseen. Are there any export or import companies out there that could ever look at potential purchases for me and do imports / exports to Canada? I wouldn't want to have a car arrive that looked good online and was a basket-case when it got here! :( I wouldn't mind if the paint was faded...it could always be relatively easily repainted later, I just would want it to be solid with little to no rust and to be a good driver. :) Also, considering shipping costs wouldn't be cheap from Europe to Canada, hopefully one that was reasonable in terms of price!

Any comments / suggestions / ideas would be helpful!

Do t know much about importing cars to Canada but post 88 cars will almost certainly run on unleaded fuel and have a rear heated screen :D they also do have interior heaters that blows warm air up from the engine. There pretty good apparently or if your really brave you can buy a water cooler version call a BIS which enjoys 26hp (over the air coolers 24) and also a tailgate :) .......just keep an eye on the temp gauge :p

i have personally imported 2 fiat 126s to canada :)

PM me for more info / help!!

Nice to see somebody else potentially looking to import a Maluch to Canada! :D

Where are you from DrClawHammer? Nova Scotia here.

I'm still saving up for my own - I've also had trouble trying to find somebody to help with mine, but I came across a classic car garage/company in Poland called Classic Parts Staniszewski (look them up on Facebook, as I have less than 5 posts, it won't let me post a URL link here!)

I sent them a few messages on Facebook about how I would like to import one for myself to Canada sometime in the next few years and received helpful and pleasant responses from a fellow called Michal. They've told me that, including shipping, it would probably cost something like $5000 CAD to get it here, which I think it pretty reasonable - that's with them finding one, checking it over and whatnot as well.

I'm hoping to budget $5500-$6000 CAD to get them to do some preventative maintenance before they ship it over (new belts, new timing chain, new tires, etc, etc) as parts are easier to get over there, of course.

Maybe toss them an email or a message on Facebook as well? :)

Hello from Alberta haha thanks for the info man had almost given up hope lol definitely send this guy a message. $5000-6000 CAD is I think a great price would love 2 do the same and get one that is in mint condition with all the work done to it before it gets shipped here.

What sorts of questions did you ask? I can only imagine the amount of paper work that we'd have 2 do just 2 import one into Canada haha

Oh did you have to use google translate to communicate cause that would be a sun of a gun lol

I contacted them as well on Facebook, they are very helpful and all communication was in English, so no issues with language barrier

Basically you can work with them to find the right car - they'll go and find something that is decent, bring it back to their shop and go over it and replace what needs replacing or pack the car with needed parts if you want to go that route. They will then ship it to port via truck from there you would have to arrange a shipping container to Canada.
All of the proper paperwork for the sale and transfer of ownership would be done...

They were very helpful for me and gave me an estimate of around $5k-6k Canadian...what did they say they could do for you for an estimate Frank? If you don't mind my asking...
