Hello! Car shopping. Never considered a Fiat until the 500L Easy popped up on a search this morning. I have to say I am intrigued!

I found the Fiat user group on Reddit and read it over. It seems that some are upset and others are concerned about the number of repairs their Fiat requires. Some had a couple warranty repair visits a year. Is that standard for a Fiat? Or would it just seem that those having troubles are being the squeaky wheels on the internet?

I also saw someone in Canada mention trouble starting in the winter. I am in Utah, is that a concern for me too?

New to Fiat myself after coming over from what seemed like rock solid Toyota territory. Got a 4x4 Panda after years of Yaris (Echo?) ownership. 2000 miles on the clock now, can make some strange noises on startup in the cold, can make some strange noises at any time as it's the TwinAir engine, but can also put a massive smile on my face when driving :) Still have my reservations and sometimes heart in my mouth because of my perceptions of Fiat reliability but (touch wood) all's fine so far.

Take it easy,
Mick

Welcome to the forum.

I think FIAT's reputation in the US is not as good in the US as it is over in the EU. Thay are not without their problems but I would say no better or worse than the likes of Ford Vauxhall etc etc.

Like any vehicle you can get a rouge one though.

The dent in the US reputation was I think in the main due to early problems with the auto transmission they opted for in the US. We get a much better robotised transmission, but FIAT decided the US market would prefer a more 'traditional' type auto transmission which seemingly was plagued with issues. It is my understanding that this is now resolved but 'mud sticks' as the saying goes.

hey, I'm the Canuck.
...Since had the battery replaced this winter under warranty as it happened again (totally dead better despite using block heater daily).
Note: If temp is below -10 C overnight i plug in the block heater (not standard on US models but on CDN models) and this made a big difference this winter. It's a hassle but necessary. Make sure you get an engine block heater.
New battery has been good so far and is a MOPAR battery made in North America not Serbia. Also I lock the car all the time to prevent the battery from draining.
I have had a few issues, now a sensor light comes on daily for TPMS> look around, not a great winter car, lots of fun but buyer beware based on my personal experience.
I also had engine misfires and sparks replaced last year which is likely from the car sitting in the lot for up to 6 months before i bought it.
