Hi
Just joined the forum, this is my first post,so hello everyone.
I own a Punto 1.4 Eleganza 2004.The audio controls on the steering wheel light up but do not work as intended,I've read up quit a lot about the clock spring, fuses, etc.but I wondered if there was a common fault fix, before I start taking things apart? The car has only covered 40000 miles.

What radio do you have fitted? Original blaupunkt? Does it have "MP3" on the front written anywhere?

It's quite possible the radio has been changed, but the controls should still work!

I'd pull it forwards and check all the mini ISO plugs are present and connected.

Hi Andy, thank you for responding, original Blaupunkt was replaced with a new original spec Blaupunkt (radio/single CD player) early on in the car's life by the main dealer, because the original kept coming on randomly, overnight for example,a common fault, but I did wonder if the replacement was an exact match/wired in correctly.I've looked at the back of the radio and there are 2 plugs, one has several wires attached while the other has just two, does this sound right?

Yes the early stereo's if i remember had failing Cd load sensors
They would randomly detect a CD been loaded (even if 1 was in there)
it'd wake the stereo up for no reason really

On the punto it has an ISO connector which will feed all the speakers and the power feeds, there should also be a 3block connector (yellow blue green iirc) which is where the steering control came into play?
Is the that little 3 colour block which your on about?
tbh i'd seen very few punto's with extra controls - most were basic spec cheap run arounds to mid trims like active sports and ELX, then you got some people slapped lots of extra goodies on

Hi Ziggy
Yes, those three colour blocks are there, so they relate to the radio remote connector do they? I'll take another look and maybe try & trace back/forward the wiring, although not sure which wires/specific connectors relate to the audio controls on the steering wheel. Incidentally the horn & all stalk functions are operational.

If its an original stereo you should be able to just plug it and itll work
