Just a quick hello as I'm new to forums of any kind but this one looks really good and genuinely useful...as well as friendly.
Currently driving a brilliant 2010 Fiorino 1.3 diesel van and a 1970 500L. Both small and both great fun to drive in different ways.

Beautiful car ! Just noticed you are in ireland from the reg plate !

The original L was the 'Lusso' - luxury (stop laughing) - meaning it had a a bit of carpet instead of rubber mats, a bit of 'chrome' strip on the rain channels and, most noticeably, the chrome nudge bars front and rear. A larger rectangular instrument binnacle is fitted which has another 'luxury' item: a fuel gauge :) The earlier version had a low fuel light. Other than that the car is essentialy a 500F.

It's a funny thing about the "L"s. I think that to our "modern" taste, those few little "luxuries" slightly take something away from the classic design.

Way back when they were just cheap old bangers we had to have the "L" style details even to the point that I remember swapping the chrome over-riders onto an "F", which I would never do now.

I think that "L" stands for Lovely as well as Lusso.
