Hiya first post on here, can anyone tell me what is the correct mileage on a fiat stylo 1.2 petrol 16v,to change cam belt ,:)thanks

i'd never leave an interference engine that long, 4 years or 40k for petrol 3 years or 36k for diesel and always fit complete kit inc water pump

I may be wrong and folk have many opinions on such an important service item though I recall there being an amendment to service interval for cam-belt but thought it was 36k for petrol and slightly longer for diesel still be good to know correct interval from any service amendment bulletin issued from fiat and certainly agree with water pump on the diesel which being an owner and changed the items myself know it is driven from the cam-belt not sure about petrol engine stilo's.

All 16V Fiat petrol engines timing belt interval: 36K (60.000km) OR three years, whatever comes first.
Everything beyond is at your own risk...
Because many belts broke, causing ruined engines, Fiat cut the change interval in halve some time ago (any dealer knows...)

It says to check belt at 36000/3 years but change it at 72000/5years on this official Fiat bulletin. Has it been superceded?

A Fiat dealer also gives the same advice:

I've looked at a few up to date dealers' web sites and they all say change belt every 4/5 years. If Fiat halved the change intervals why do the dealers still stick to the old intervals?
Is there a fiat technical bulletin announcing the change of practice?

Ask a written warranty it will last 5 years from your workshop.....

This spring, our 1,6-16 is due for it's 4th cambelt change in 12 years of ownership.
(Btw,I only use original Fiat parts , cambelt, several tensioners, powersteering belt, alternator belt, and A/C belt....)

:yeahthat:

Ask the belt manufacture, not Fiat - Dealers don't know the half of it most of the time.

Its been revised to 36k or 36 months, personally I get it done every 3 yrs which is about 50k with our useage.

All very well but Conti and Gates don't include the Stilo in their lists, so where can one get the correct information? The only place I've read the intervals have been shortened is on this forum.

You already know the answer.
Everything beyond 36K or three years is at your own risk, (or, again, have a written warranty from your mechanic/workshop...)

Does anyone know a reliable independent garage that could do a timing belt change on a twin cam 1.4 (Stilo active aircon) in the Belfast/North Down area?

Sorry just noticed this...

I wouldn't recommend the independent garage I used to get my timing chain changed as it failed within 11 months and ended up costing me a small fortune. I got it fixed by Donnelly's as it happened in between Christmas and the New Year and said independent was of no assistance as he was on holiday... You can PM me for details on where to avoid...

Members of the Northern Ireland Italian Motor Club get a discount at Donnelly's and you get a two year warranty.
