I just configured a basic Abarth 500 C and a Fiat 500 Sport C and the abarth works out cheaper how can that be ? surely the Abarth is a more sporty option and a better spec car ?

If thats the case then go for the Abarth, better looking, better to drive, sounds better, has more standard kit. You'd be crazy to spend more on a non Abarth version.
