You spend most of your time driving either cruising, accelerating or braking - and 4th isn't much use for any of those.
In other cars I've often skipped intermediate gears without a second's thought. In the previous 989cc Diahatsu I often didn't bother with either 2nd or 3rd unless faced with a hill, but I find the 500 TA a lot less forgiving of such cavalier treatment despite considerably higher BHP and torque rating. To be fair it's a lot bigger and heavier of course. Is this down to gear ratios?
