hi fiat forum
i have a problem and im not sure what it is and im hoping someone with know what it is.
so when im in neutral there is a rattely noise and when i pushed the clutch down it goes quiet and stops making the ratteling noise then when i lift the clutch its there again.
but this is the strange part i then drove down to my local shop which is no more then a 2min drive i pull up there and the noise has gone.
i then drive back home pull up outside and the noise is back again.
i have notice my clutch pedal when pushed down makes a bit of a squeeking noise im not sure if this is an issue or not.
thanks for reading and if anyone can give me some advice on this it will be greatly appreciated

Hi and WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

Its likely thay tor rattle is coming from the clutch release bearing. Its also not unusual fir them to rattle one min and then not the next if they are not too far gone!

If replacing the bearing, you shoukd also change the clutch at the same time as the gearbox will need to be removed anyway.

The pedal should be silent and free through it's full travel. Squeaks, clicks or a stiff point in the travel generally is the release bearing which if it has gone will more than likely have had a go at the release springs.
Get an assistant to push the pedal while you go listening around the bellhousing for the squeak.
If it is confrmed and the box is coming out make sure that all shaft seals and bearings are checked at the same time. Nothing worse than having to take it out again a few months down the road for the sake of a few quid.

Squeaking from clutch pedal tends to come from clutch slave cylinder, nothing to worry about unless you have problems with it. Mine started squeaking years ago, lubricated it and the squeaking stopped but returned a few months later and just left it as is.

I always thought a rattling when the clutch is pressed in was the release bearing, and a rattling when the clutch is lifted was the gearbox input shaft bearing?

Im sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Mine had a rattling but only with the clutch pressed in, was silent with clutch lifted or in neutral. Also felt as if the pedal was 'catching' on something when pressing it, this turned out to be the clutch release bearing.
