Hi all,

Just bought my first new car since 1986! A 7/2013 build Panda Easy 0.9.

Very happy with it so far, but only a week in. Bought it in Melbourne with 4km on the odo and drove it home to Sydney. Melbourne dealers have been slashing prices so I couldn't resist...

hello, and welcome to FF, : - )

they are a great little engine,
keep an eye on the oil level in the motor,
as they have a habit of not sealing well in the bores until thoroughly run-in,
the break-in can take @ 10,000 KM's, ; - )

Thanks Charlie. Still running it in with just 950km on it (I know there is no running in procedure, but I don't want to rev the hell out of it for a little while longer). It was hard varying the revs regularly on the highway trip home, but I have heard it's bad for a new engine to be sitting on the same rpm constantly. So far it isn't burning oil, but I have had an ESP fault since driving away from the dealer. Booked in with Fiat to have a proper look at it in a few weeks.

Welcome, and if you have pics, we still like them ;)

Yes on paper and for dealers, engines does not require break-in... But in fact it's always better to drive "soft" 1000km and don't be too hard before 2000km I think.
The proof of break-in is the consumption always drop a little at about 5-10'000km and I find the engine is at his best even after :)

with the Twin-air ( and other engines)

it's good to get the oil control rings"seated" in the bores,

the method I used..;

get things nicely warm - "operating temperature"

then change down a gear too low into a sweeping bend,
that'll get the rev's up @ the 3.5 / 4K rpm mark, on the "overrun"

I did this every now + again once fully warm,
motor took at least 10,000KM to ease off, now at 20K it's pretty lively..!!

I've changed the engine oil twice in that time ( level has never moved)

Thanks for that - I have been changing up at no more than 4500rpm and on the highway I'd slow down often and let the engine overrun, similar to how you did it. Sounds like I'm on the right track.

I have lots of plans for my Panda. I will get a Novitec or Magneti-Marelli 100hp tuning box when it has more km (maybe 2500?) and a towbar. I want to build an ultra-light camper trailer (Tare 300kg) to tow behind the Panda.

Just picked up an Easy in Melbourne too, however I only had to drive 20 or so kays! You're right, they are incredibly cheap here, even cheaper than a Chinese car! Wow.

The business manager of the house had previously stated that I was never to buy another Italian car after my Sud, however, the price of the Panda (and its looks) swayed her. Happy motoring.

I am sure there were better deals, but $10.6k plus ORC... I'm happy. Better than $19k + as was list price.

Holy moly !!!!

I really like the the Panda - this is tempting !!! But we really could not justify another Italian car (can we Honey ??)

AFAIK the deals are almost finished if not gone completely on the Easy TA manual - at those prices, hardly surprising. I don't understand why certain dealers were able to drop prices so much but there you go.
