Hi there,

I'm the very happy owner of a Fiat Barchetta which I'm in the process of registering onto French plates. I know I can order a certificate of conformity online which will cost around 180 Euros. I've heard of people getting these from Fiat for free, does anyone know anything about this?

Hope someone can help!

Hi, I took my B to France and I wrote off to Fiat UK and got the C of C for free, that was three years ago, I have heard that they now won't give them out for free anymore.
I wrote to:-
Mike Haveron
Fiat Group Automobiles UK Ltd
Fiat House
240 Bath Road
Slough
SL1 4DX
Maybe he might not still be there, I also had to send a copy of the V5 to prove that the vehicle was registered to me in the UK.
I hope you get it sorted quickly
Regards
Roy

Thanks Roy that's really helpful. Even if he's not there I'm sure someone else there can keep me right. I have a feeling it won't be free but hopefully cheaper than what I've been asked for here in France!

HI,
I am doing exactly the same as you. I contacted Fiat UK and was told emphatically that CoC's are not issued any more and you have to purchase the attestation. I was quoted 164Euros. If you are exporting to other than France it may be different as the questions I were asked lead to, 'oh if you export to France our international section will send give you a French attestation'. I told them that I had registered 3 previous cars in France and HAD TO HAVE a CoC as part of the documentation. They replied that the attestation had more info than the CoC (can't see it having anything more relevant myself) and will be accepted by the French. I did ask them if the attestation was not accepted would they give my a CoC... no response to that. Good luck with Fiat UK but I think they have it tied up and NAME OF THE GAME IS generation of income!.
Let us know how you get on as if you get a better response I will try your route as I haven't purchased the attestation yet.
Regards

High Vickysoft,
how are getting on with obtaining the CoC? I have just got my UK registered car out of the rust repair shop and hoped to get it French registered starting with the Control Technique (CT) inspection. I took my car in for its CT today having waited for 2 weeks for the appointment, only to be told that they needed the CoC and the V5 before they would carry out a CT. So I have given in and through the Fiat Homologation web site paid the 165 Euros and sent for the 'attestation'. I will post again when I receive it.

Hi Vickysoft

I registered mine about five years ago and the only practical way of doing it was to go through Fiat France, at the time it cost me about €130. Do make sure that you have any and all paperwork and that means anything you have from Swansea, an EDF or France Telecom bill and a Taxe Fonciere and Taxe
d'Habitation, these are all to prove where you live and that you are resident. You will also need a Controle Technique. The whole business should take no more than two or three weeks.
Good luck and be patient, it does all work eventually,

Thanks for the advice Doblo, I am just waiting for the Fiat attestation as Fiat said that they no longer provide a CoC. The French Govt site does list an attestation as an alternative to the CoC.
I will post when I have successfully registered.
Cheers

Steve, we bought our 'B' when it had already been registered in France (first registered in Germany, then the UK). I have just checked throught the file and found that the first CT was done here and there was no CoC, just the Cert. d'immatriculation etranger (V.5) in the name of the last keeper. If your CT station are being a pain perhaps try an alternative?

Some years ago I registered a Honda motorcycle here and as Japan don't issue CoC's I got an Attestaion from Honda UK and that was fine. Mind you, we are in the Gers and the Prefecture seems to have a somewhat relaxed attitude towards certain things, we bought a Peugeot from a garage in les Landes and they told us how much the Certificate d'immatriculation was going to be, we gave them a cheque, a couple of weeks later (after the Cert. d'imm. turned up) we got a letter from the garage returning our cheque and asking for one for a lower amount as registering in the Gers is cheaper than les Landes! As they said, horses (H.P.) are cheaper in the Gers.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, but as I need the attestation to register anyway, I'll just wait until it arrives and get the CT done. So much for the law saying you need to re-register within 1 month of importation!!! French paperwork takes longer than that. I will keep on posting to the end :)

Mike Haveron supplied me with a CoC f.o.c in 2009 for my 2002 Doblo. He is still at FIAT UK. However, last year I tried for documentation for my 1987 Strada Abarth 130TC. Mike could not help- he stated that it predated CoCs (1998 I think) and anyway, FIAT now charge for CoCs.

So I applied to FIAT France

6 rue Nicolas Copernic
78190 Trappes

THEyY supplied a "conformité partielle". So this was an "attestation", partial because my car was named a Strada (rather than Ritmo as in the rest of Europe) and had a right hand drive. This attestation was accepted by DREAL, as I had to go thru the DREAL process.

As your Barchetta will be LHD, and bears the same model name as French versions, the "attestation" will completely satisfy the French authorities. Don't forget to get a "quittus fiscale" from your local tax office before registering.

Good luck

Hi All,
Success so far. This morning I received the 'Attestation' in lieu of a CoC from Fiat France and managed to get an appointment for the CT this afternoon. She passed phew! So monday morning I will visit the tax office and get a Quittus Fiscal before visiting the Prefecture. The Attestation cost 165 Euros and when I compared it with the CoC I have for my other cars there is actually less info on it.

Vickscot how are you getting on with your CoC?

StevePD:)

Sorry for lack of replies Steve PD I haven't been on for a bit! I spoke to the guy that Sailfin recommended from Fiat UK - Mike HAVERON, who organised the CoC very quickly but it did cost me £120. I don't think there's any way these days of getting it free! Did CT last week but failed on headlights needing to be switched over, this is becoming a bit tricky as garages down here don't seem to know how to change them......that is the only sticking point right now - any ideas folks?

Good luck Steve PD. As far as I'm aware you have 6 months to re-register a vehicle in France but we still have valid UK tax disc etc at the moment......

Hi Vicky
The change over of headlights is a fairly easy operation. It entails taking the headlights off, if you don't want to do this yourself get the garage to do it for you. Then you remove the rear of the headlight assembly and turn round the deflector? Done. There are instructions on the French Barchetta website. It really is very simple, good luck

News update, obtained the Quittus Fiscale ffrom the tax office, it took as long as it takes to fill out a form with the usual proof of residency, car purchase receipt, CT and attestation (photocopied each twice) Then off to the Prefecture with all the same docs, (photocopied again), Pay Euro 142.50 (no pollution surtax as car is over 10 years old) Car now registered in France. Total cost Fiat 165 euro, French Prefecture 142.50, CT 64.00 =Euro 371.50

VickyScott, my lights were changed by switching the reflector plate over as described by others.
Good luck

That's great Steve. i'm off to the tax office tomorrow, just the lights to get sorted.....

Quittance obtained with no problems - last step before Prefecture is these damned headlights. StevePD did you switch your deflector round yourself or did garage do it? Can't seem to find a garage that doesn't shake their head and advise us to buy new headlights! Also went to carrosserie who did the same......everyone on here says it's so simple and we have the diagram/instuctions posted on the Fiat France site, but we're both a bit hamfisted/rarely attempt any car maintenance and therefore reluctant to attempt ourselves!

Hi Vicky,
my lights were changed by the previous owner before I picked it up. Norauto or leclerc auto may do it particularly if you print out the Barchetta French site 'how to Guide' for them.
Steve

I've just bought a B and will be moving to Dordogneshire in the next couple of weeks so would be grateful if anyone has a link to the 'how to' for adjusting the headlights
Thanks in advance
