Hi, I'm hoping someone will have some idea about this. I have a 2.2 petrol (and gas) auto. a month or so ago it randomly would jump out of gear then back in with a jolt under harder acceleration. It then started jumping out from standstill and going into limp mode. Driving the car more gently eased this problem. But it has steadily got worse, going into limp just while in traffic, then the last couple of days become practically un-driveable. I would like to check the transmission fluid before putting it in to a garage. Has anyone had similar probe? Does anyone know how to top up?/check levels. I'm guessing its a 'sealed for life' unit as there's no dipstick but experience with other cars found the fluid can and sometimes does need topping up. Kev

Transmission is supposed to be a sealed for life unit. Sound like the value block is on the blink. Common fault on the Aisin box around. 2005 and early 2006. This could either be the valves sticking or the solenoids on their way out. I would strongly recommend a transmission specialist as they will have a better idea over a general garage. Be prepared to kiss goodbye to the thick end of a grand either way.

Hi , Sorry but from my experiences think its not a cheap fix, might be worth changing oil , but the early Aisin auto box had a defective solenoid valve design, was modified for later and overhauled units, problem then solved, some gearboxes were done under warranty.
I have a Croma JTD 16v Prestigio auto and about 2 and half ago just after I bought it had similar problem. If you look on web you will see same early box problems on Volvo, Vauxhall, Saab, VW, mini, others.
I had box fully overhauled by true specialist , Transfix Bradford. I asked several other specialists, one offered to change solenoid block for later design, this is possible with gearbox in situ but still will cost over £1k. Might not cure as debris from failure can effect rest of gearbox. In my case it wouldn't have worked as debris had effected rest of box , this was properly diagnosed by Transfix.
It did surprise me how little one 'specialist' really knew about this problem , lots of talk but I wasn't convinced he knew enough, so look out for this.
So sorry its not good news, if I can tell you more about what I found, please ask . Thanks John
