My daughter has found a 500 lounge in a private sale that she has fallen in love with. Only 7000 miles its 20 months old one owner from new. Problem is she has never had it serviced. Would this have an effect on the warranty.

Charlie thanks for the reply. You're right it is a good bargaining tool. Although my daughter was texting the seller last night saying how much she loved the car! Not great when I'm trying to negotiate a deal,:)

Its only got 4 months left on the manufacturers warranty and as stated elsewhere the dealer warranty in the third year isn't worth a damn anyway. As a low miler it should have had a service at 1 year which is a good bargaining tool to get it for a cheaper price.

I'm sorry, I have to completely disagree, that is not entirely correct at all. That 3rd year warranty saved me over 1k. I agree, the 3rd year warranty may be limited, but it does cover more than you think.

Were you the original owner? The stories on here (no personal experience my 500 is only 1 yr old) tend to be second hand ones that dealers try to walk away from. I get the impression that if they didn't supply it then they are not very interested in supporting it. I may (and hope) be wrong but that's the way it seems to read. Of course a place like this tends to attract more negative comments than good but that's human nature, everyone loves a good moan.

We were the second owner of the first 500 we owned. Admittedly, it had been a fleet car and so had belonged to a company. It had very low mileage and was only six months old from new when we bought it. The garage we bought the car from was an independent fleet reseller and has since closed down. However when the car required its first service, it was done at a Fiat dealer. Second one done at a Fiat specialist independent for a third of the price.

As for making claims on the third year warranty. The first one was the electric steering motor and was picked up by the dealer after a software update. Even though I didn't buy the car from them, there was no quibbling as I had transferred the 3rd year warranty in the first week of ownership. Same for the subsequent claims, door handles breaking, all covered, no issues. All that happens is that they get a Fiat insurance assessor to look at the vehicle, ensure the claim is valid and the work is approved. The trouble is with people generally, and I've witnessed this on many occasions, they literally crumple in a dealership, frightened of the staff. I'm afraid I don't put up with any BS from anyone, I'm very very firm with people, certainly not an easy person to deal with but I get results.

Not buying that 3rd year warranty if you are a second owner is in my view, foolhardy. Anyone that complains about spending £27 after forking out a load of money on a second hand car needs to sit in a corner and have a quiet chat with themselves lol ;)

The warranty will only be void on the engine anyway, use it as a bargaining chip, get it serviced asap and transfer the third year warranty into your name.

Not messing about with you then!!!(y)
