Hi, I am a new member, and have a 2005 Fiat Idea with a noisy/leaky 5 speed manual gearbox.
I am trying to ascertain which gearboxes are compatible, as there are very few Ideas breaking out there.
There appear to be a number of 'similar in appearance' options like the Punto/Grande Punto etc along with many of the 1.4 petrol gearboxes also appearing to be the same physically.
Without buying a handful of these, and then trying each one out in turn, could anyone shed some light on whether a gearbox from a different model would be compatible.

many thanks
Tony

Hi, and welcome to FF,
a punto Mk2 / 2B should be the same engine and box,

people in the know on here say there are very few variations.. BUT the GP seems to be more problematic..option wise,

look on ePER the fiat's Microfiche system and compare part No's punto 2B / vs / Idea

the ePER link in on the FF homepage banner,

Charlie - Oxford, we have a 1.4 semi-auto Idea.

Hi, thanks for the very useful info, looks like my Idea has an M10 gearbox, and the possible compatible options are from 2003 on Stilo 1.6 16v or Punto 1.4 16v.
will hope to source a replacement very soon!
Many thanks.

Im not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, but based on my experience of having a 1.6 Stilo I would say if you can replace with a 1.4 gearbox - go for that option. I loved my 1.6 Stilo but it was a nightmare and when I spent £900 on a recon gearbox it lasted just over a year before it went again. I purchased the car before I discovered this forum - had I known what I learned from being here, I would never have bought the 1.6 Stilo in the first place :(
