Hi all got a w reg 1.9d scudo lack of power when accelerating then cloud of black smoke and then feels like a turbo had kicked in even though there isn't one. My thoughts turn to the ERG valve after trying to remove it with zero success I find its coated inside with what looks like engine oil. Is there any easy way to remove this and why is engine oil inside. Appreciate any help or thoughts.

Hi mate,

Does sound like a potentially blocked/ stuck EGR. Its normal to have an oily substance in the EGR. It will also have carbon deposits.

In order to test your theory, rather than remove the EGR valve completely, you can just fit a blanking plate on the EGR and then go for a test drive. If the problem is cured, then you can set about removing the EGR in order to either replace it or try and clean it.

Thanks for your reply mate,

So far I have managed to get a manual from Emanual.com but to my dismay there are parts missing so i am in talks with them :bang: I now realise that i can remove the inlet manifold to remove the EGR, but to get to the securing bolts that's a tough one. Tried to remove EGR today but the weather was against me so quit while i was ahead. After taking small pipe off from inlet manifold to cam case cover noticed that inlet manifold has same oily deposits inside is this normal ?
Thanks for your reply any further help would be appreciated

Thanks for the prompt reply mate :)

I have realised to remove the inlet manifold I have remove 2 allen type bolts that are deep down on top of the engine so you have work blind. I think i will try to clean the EGR first I guess to prove a point. I am posting a couple of pics just because they speak volumes.

Anyway many thanks again for your input
