Hi , just joined today after hunting for information in changing oil and filter in my new bravo 165. After some trial and error I found removing the under tray plus the small panel beside the drivers side wheel allowed me easy access to the sump plug and inconveniently positioned filter. The sump plug nut is a 13mm which in my opinion is far to small since the thread is around 16 or 17 mm. Felt as if it may round off at any minute.
Anyway I am really enjoying this car , very quick and good fuel consumption. Previous car was Subaru Impreza so it's got a lot to beat,
Thinking of changing timing belt, 34000 miles and 4.5 years old , what's anyone's opinions on this ? Thanks ?

Thanks , had been owned by older guy who just didn't use it so much but was thinking it should be done, any idea of cost , cheers

Cost £680 for belt, pump tensioner and a full service that included everything that could be changed being done on my 120 1.6, which is essentially the same engine (y)

That was a good price, from a Alfa / Fiat specialist using OEM parts.

Wow ! Not cheap ! Thanks for the info much appreciated! Wasn't sure if I had posted in correct area so tried bravo section too! Least I no for next time ,

No worries, This comes up in Bravo section also as you tagged Bravo :)

That price I paid was a lot cheaper than the same would have been at a main dealer, and I was very happy with the price.

Re the oil change be aware that with dpf you must reset both service AND oil degeneration counters if you haven't already you need to do so.

Well remembered, although if an oil change ONLY the oil degradation counter needs to be reset. Service counter can wait until a full service.
rankiboy if you haven't reset the degradation counter you MUST get it done before you start using the car any more, having it out of sync with oil changes is a recepie for disaster when it comes to cars fitted with a DPF.

I think I'm just a very sad case nothing better to think about!

Hi again, I did oil and filter as dealer hadn't reset the service light when serviced at 32000 miles so now they correspond. I wonder how they changed oil as small access panel hadn't been off!? I won't be waiting until service warnings come on any way , I always change my cars oil at around 6 thousand miles. Never hhad engine trouble with any previous car doing it this way. Cheers guys

No, you don't understand, no matter how often you change your oil, if you do not reset the degradation counter your car WILL STOP DPF REGENERATIONS and you'll be looking at a bill of £1k+ to so it.

You must get it reset NOW - it is as simple as that!

Where would I get the software? Do u just get a lead to connect laptop? Thanx for info!

I use a syphon pump on my 1.9 MJ 120 to change the oil. Saves having to mess with the sump plug. Mine wouldn't undo as it was so tight. You simply stick a tube down the dip stick hole and pump the old oil out. It gets every last drop and is quick and clean. The only messy job is then getitng underneath to change the filter. This is at the front of the engine though and pretty easy to get to.

Sounds good but my filter is in wheel arch with sump plug so just as easy for me that way. Sump plug is rather strange being only 13mm but large hollow thread . If it had been say 17mm it would of been a bigger success .

Out of interest, been looking at getting one of these, what pump do you have?

Just been quoted 228 to change timing belt and water pump by fiat! Seems cheap!
