Hi Everyone,

I am the proud owner of a Fiat Stilo 1.9 jtd Dynamic Estate (06) ! I am sick and tired of people telling me I have bought a heap of junk and was so delighted to find this forum ! I love my car and it just nice to know that if I have any queries then I can log on to fellow Fiat owners for help & support. I have no idea of about cars so I am at the mercy of garages and "blokes" ! God help me! Look forward to chatting soon. x

Have had my 1.9 JTD Multiwagon Dynamic for 4 years now and will be keeping for just as many years ahead why change it does not use oil good mpg all the gadjets bar sat nav that any new car comes with plenty boot space cheaptax band, keep on top of servicing that is possible without taking to garage and just the normal stuff that any other car needs replacing due to wear and tear, things break on any car and with the help of others on hear soon put right, yours is an 06 so most of any niggles would have been sorted, just keep your cambelt and waterpump changed at correct interval which you would do with any other motor. Great car and does all I need from it

Your stilo will no doubt make your fingers scratch the top of your head many times but you will grow to love it :D mines cost my enough beer tokens to put right and I'm still working away? But I love the car! :) and of course were all here to help you scratch away (y) you've chosen an excellent motor, be proud :)

welcome to FF, tootlepie

we're a nice bunch of people (if ever so slightly unhinged) rest safe in the knowledge that your 06 stilo was higher spec'd for its price than ANY of its competitors namely Vauxhall. but trust me you have chosen the right car! yeah the diesel will give you headaches and torment but when she's runnin' right theres not many that are better!

im on my 4th fiat and im only 27 i looked around and couldnt find anything that did what i wanted better than the stilo to warrant the extra monies. shes let me down once in 2 yrs and that was my own fault for bodging stuff together!

Here here! I'm on my 7th fiat and I'm only 32! Lol I've also tried a few other flavours the Mazda I had was shocking but well equipped, my rover was sturdy but boring and my ford was so disappointly bad that I'll never own one again? Its funny how everyone tells me my fiats will rust away yet all of the ones I have had have never needed welding? Yet I buy a 4 year old ka and the sill, boot area and petrol cap area all started to go? ....... Try mentioning that at a fast ford show? :D

my first car.. Ka... i will never buy fords again:yuck: had to put an engine in it due to fords crap case hardening skills on their cams, repeatedly welded sills and arches as well as engine mounts, sold it for a profit... dont ask how!

2nd cinq (written off)
3rd cinq
4th Toyota Celica (written off)
5th ditto (is now the mrs car)
6th cinq (£350 ran for 3 years before i couldnt be arsed welding it anymore, it'd had a hard life by the sea)
7th Stilo

you'll never get me away from fiats... if you do it wont be long before im back... i might look at an MW if i ever need the extra space but i dont know what my next fiat will be after the stilo!

ive driven fords mondeo and can fully understand why it was nicknamed the mundane-o its flat, uninspiring and life less. citroens and peugeots are the same, vags scream of rep mobiles, BMWs simply dont interest me, VX although nice seem to be a little to plasticy for my liking

fiats have soul, a certain spark. little quirks that keep you occupied and only add to your inexplicable love for the damn things... the cinqs loose fuel when cornering then gain fuel as you straighten back up. hilarity like that is one of the reasons i bought 3! the stilo is nice looking and cheap(ish) to repair i get almost the same return as the cinq. i like it the mrs likes it the daughter likes it hell even my mate who would never buy a fiat actually enjoyed driving it when his vectra packed up the other week. i slate fiats as much as any of the rest of the world but at the end of the day its misplaced and inappropriate. but there is 117,717 people signed upto this forum and something keeps bringing every single last one of them back, not to mention the lurkers who dont sign up!

Hi everyone!
Thanks soooo much for all the replies - and I will keep the secret:rolleyes: "donkosta". I am not new to Fiat as I have also been the proud owner of a Fiat Marea Weekender (how I loved that car) for the previous 10yrs. Not a days grief did it give me and I thumbed my nose at stranded snow bound travellers on many occasions as we ploughed past...........! Bought my Dynamic on the back of that and although very different - the love affair has started again. Been advised via the service last month that timing belt due for replacement - 50,000 miles so far on the clock (06) - any thoughts out there as to whether now is the time ?).
Cant tell you how good it is to have discovered this forum - well happy ! Just hope one day I can be the help and support. " MHOWSE " - does your back window open independently from the boot ? and if so are you as amazed/fascinated/ impressed/sad about that as me !!!!!!? :life:

I too had marea (saloon) and have to say was the nicest car I ever owned :) I had the 2.0 20v version and it was a pleasure to drive. My dad liked it so much, he went and got a weekend with the same engine! If I hadn't have bought a house i'ld still own it now? :( sold it for a sei :) which sadly got written off in a big way and ended up in that great scrap yard in the sky ........another great lil car

yes Tootlepie I would take service advice and get timing belt done think the service interval for belt on diesel is 4 years and the mileage to change has various opinions I do know fiat fiat change the service interval from 5 years to 4 years and think they lowerd the mieage interval would get your waterpump done at same time with your mieage that would be origenal waterpump and some have had issues with it failing as it is run off timing belt can cause serious damage if bearings in it fail also issue with impeller blades breaking but if belt is being done is less hassel to do at same time and also you will know your self it has been done the price of replacing waterpump now would be considerably cheaper now than if it needs doing 5,000 mile later..about to do mine shortly as 4 years just passed and no idea when waterpump was done so going to change the lot am on 105,000miles now no big problems had spring snap front and back but easy fix and usual brakes discs wishbones like any other brand of car although think the extra pot holes in roads these days are causing more suspension issues on all cars chap who did last mot said had seen big increase from all makes including vw and audi with broken springs..have to replace nearside wishbone also this year but not a big problem got the part is just waiting for the sun to shine and get it done ,otherwise am happy with the motor is 53 plate no major rust issues did have problem with cabin heater blower motor which replaced with siemens type and issue with alarm siren.you should have updated siemens heater blower being an 06 I have never had issues with faulty airbag lights but like most motors do the servicing and not much else you can do, look after it and hope it looks after you is my view...yes the split boot is handy for dropping the nik naks in the back,, but as am sure you will find like me any issues and you sure to find some advice here to point you in right direction, any issues I have had such as the heater blower I put right just by searching the threads on here and is my first port of call if anything needs seeing to on the car, even from just fitting cruise control from the advice here has been great advice and saved me a fair few pennies.

welcome buddy, you have a smasshing car, but its only people like us that get it, fiats have soul and character unlike teh generic vw and audi or ford. i am 33 and i have a fiat stilo multiwagon dynamic jtd on a 53 plate and i love it, this is my 8th fiat and 2nd stilo lol, i did try a ford in 2008 (had fiat since 2001) but after 10 months that was sold to go back to a fiat, yes they have there niggles but what car doesn't, infact my whole family is fiat mad

me

1: fiat punto sporting 2001 (brand new) sold in 05 to finish my house
2: fiat punto mia 2001 (brand new daily) traded for the 02 plate sporting
3: fiat punto sporting 2002 (brand new daily) traded for the 03 plate stilo
4: fiat stilo 1.2 active aircon 5 door 2003 (family/daily) traded for a zafirea on 07
5: fiat marea 2.0 20v weekend hlx r plate (family weekend toy) sold to buy a mondeo st24
6: fiat marea 2.0 20v hlx weekend 02 plate (family weekend toy) scrapped
7: fiat marea 2.0 20v hlx weekend r plate (family weekend toy) sold to buy a stilo
8: fiat stilo 1.9 jtd dynamic multiwagon (family weekend toy)

and my mum has a 53 plate punto (17k from new) , dad has a 04 plate stilo 3 door (23k from new) and my sister has just ordered a punto gbt :)

i love fiats, and i think i will always have one on the drive.

this forum is a great place, and the people on here are extremely helpful.

Tooltle: You don't say where you are in the country . If you give a clue, someone might be able to direct you to a reliable independent service person for service. This forum knows many of them all over the place. Could save you ££££s !

Indeed [echoes all that has gone before] I too am new here, but not new to Fiats - long ago when Adam was a lad I had a bright orange Strada, later a Regatta DS turbo and now a 1.9 JTD Active Stilo. In the year plus that i've run it, its been a regular perplexer, and called on lots of motoring years' experience to stop me throwing money at it. I welcome this forum and look forward to gleaning many money saving tips from it, and maybe even offering up a few of my own
Enjoy your Stilo, Look after it and it will look after you .

Welcome to the forum!

You haven't brought a heap of junk at all, you have got a decent car. Yes the electrics are crap and prone to the "odd" fault yet i'm sure you'll love it. I've spent a fortune on mine with problem after problem but i still love it....but thats the stilo for you! :D

Hi Everyone !

It is a very sad and not so excited Excited Newbie who posts today. Apologies for the big gap in communication but between heavy work and computer problems I've not had a chance to keep in touch. Unfortunately the love affair is losing its magic as my Stilo throws up one problem after another. Springs, pipes, exhaust, back window etc etc. We are now off to uphall Arnold Clark Fiat on Monday to look at sticking wipers and aircon blowing cold on one side and hot on the other ! The guy there as apparently never heard of the aircon problem  so I just wandered if any of my forum buddies had any experience / advice before I go. I still have 2 years warranty which I took out when I bought the car so fingers crossed its covered.............................

Will feedback my experience and share my joy / sorrow !

Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee X

Hi 850kd,

Sorry didnt answer your question from last time but been a gap - I am in Edinburgh and been using Farmers in Musselburgh who have been great with me. Arnold Clark different garages with mixed outcomes !! ? Off to Uphall Arnold Clark Monday for my aircon wiper problem mentioned - fingers crossed........................

If you have automatic climate control, try the reset procedure.

CLIMATE CONTROL SELF-LEARNING PROCEDURE

The AUTO and MONO buttons must be pressed simultaneously within 40 seconds of the ignition being turned ON in order to active this procedure. A few seconds later a figure will appear on the display (in place of the driver's side set temperature) which will count down to indicate the time remaining before the start of the procedure. At the same time (i.e. whilst the count down is taking place) the previous self-learning status is signalled on the passenger temperature setting:

'1' flashes if the previous self-learning procedure failed
'0' indicates that the previous self-learning procedure was successful

This procedure is not carried out if at least one of the above mentioned buttons is released whilst the figure on the left hand side is not zero (this is designed to check the outcome of the previous self-learning procedure).

Hi Davren,

Thanks so much for your reply. I started off really well but by the second sentence I was beginning to lose the place. All sounds a bit technical and scary for me, however my car has just come out of the garage, having had the timing belt replaced, and the mechanic would probably be a better option I think. He is a trusted friend and is trying to find a new wiper motor for me, so I will let him know you have one for sale - would it be suitable for my stilio ? Unfortunately the aircon was working when car was in garage, so he couldn't test it however it is now swopping sides to stop working !!! ???. He will be back to work on Monday so I will let him know your feedback. He did say he sometimes uses the forums to find out any tricky jobs and said my Stilio was only made for a couple of years so there is not much info around about it. If the wiper motor is suitable for my car could you please reserve it for me and I will let him know I've found one. Once again thankyou so much - really appreciate it, and hopefully you will get a sale for your trouble ! (y)(y)(y)
