Hi Guys
Please help, I have a Stilo 1.9 jtd 04 plate, the fault seems to be at low speed/taking off from junctions but not exclusively, in January this year the engine management light came on so at the garage I was told it was a problem with the MAF which i had replaced, the problem re-occurred a couple of months ago so the garage again said MAF !! they replaced it under warranty but this has not cured the problem, I have gone to another garage now and they to said MAF so I allowed them to change it once more, you guessed it, it didn't solve the problem, they have checked the EGR valve which is seemingly ok, we have tried a genuine fiat MAF but the loss of power at low revs is still there, intermittently, the garage have had my car for over 3 weeks now (i did say there was no rush mind you) but they dont seem to be any closer to fixing this problem, any ideas please before my head splits open from banging it against a wall :bang:,:bang:,:bang:, the car drives ok if the MAF is disconected or I should say the problem appears not to be there!!!!!

Make sure they have replaced it with the correct maf. I would also recommend you clean your egr valve i do it every year as part of the service. It also does no harm to clean your map sensor too it gave me a few extra mpg. When was your air filter last replaced? make sure you have no split pipes.

Thank you, if the air filter had got wet would that cause the problem? will get the garage to check all pipes , :)

wet air filter will restrict air flow-like putting sponge over the end of your vacuum cleaner hose. I suspect your issue is EGR. Did you notice, upon loss of power, black smoke out the back?

I would remove the EGR and clean it/blank it, up to you if you pay the garage to do it, or do it yourself.

also, you say the problem has come back and remained after changin the MAF, but, has the MILlight come back on at all, or just the power loss?

The map sensor is a good idea too-remove and clean it as its easy to do especially at the same time as the EGR.

Hi. I would blank the EGR off, that’s the only way you can tell if it is the problem.

If you just clean the EGR it may still be playing up.

It costs nothing to do and once the car is running properly you can always re-instate it, personally I leave them blanked off the car runs better with less smoke on hard acceleration.

I hope is ok to post here.... so thet I do not open anather thread

I'm planing to block my EGR valve but on E..Y.com are 2 shape's of block plate one like dimond and one squire I need only the dimond shape one or bouth?
The car is a Fiat stilo jtd 3dr from 2004
and how can I find out if si 16valve or 8valve the engine? or onli the M JTD are with 16valve
thank you

hi, you probably have the 8v, and you need the diamond shaped one BUT, buy TWO, because ideally if you are fully blanking the EGR, you want one for the inlet, and one for the egr side, it will make sense when you remove the egr (because there is an in, and an out-blank both!)
