Need Advice Please

please help

my girlfriend 2001 punto lost all power steering found out it was the power steerng motor

so i bought a recon steering coloum

im going to fit it myself with the help of haynes workshop book
but allas the old igintion switch is still on the coloum and i have no key

so what im asking is
if i change the barrell from my gf punto on to the new steering coloum will this have any affect on the immobiliser as the steering colum is complete ready to bolt on

The plastic holder for the barrel is mounted to the column assembly with 2 rounded off bolts. Using a hacksaw blade i managed to make a slice down the middle so i could use a big flat-headed screwdriver on it and took them out like that on both columns, then just switched the entire plastic bit over.

Thats the easiest way to do it if you dont have a key. and no immobiliser issues

Another thing you can do is to drill a hole in the centre of each sheer bolt, then use a screw extractor to get them out. I managed to do this on an old Ford Cortina except I used the tang of a file instead of a proper extractor!

Use the recon unit whole. If you fit it without moving the shaft even the slightest during the whole process of removal and refitting, you can get away without having to get it recalibrated
