Keys/Keycode advice

Hi everyone - my first post here.

Just today bought a Multipla ELX 1600cc (2003) and have a couple of questions.

(1) ENGINE KEYCODE: I don't seem to have this card with the details on. Do I need to order this from FIAT, or should the dealer have supplied me with one?
(2) I have been supplied with two keys and this is confirmed by the manual. However, I have read on this/another forum that a RED MASTER KEY should also be supplied. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Paul.

Re: Keys/Keycode advice

As far as I know...
We don't get code cards in the UK apparently at the request of insurance companies, because (or so the story goes) people left them with their handbooks in the car making it easy for thieves to drive off in the car once they'd got in. Fiat dealers should be able to get the code for you once you've proved who you are and that there is a genuine need for the code.
My 53 reg Multi (JTD) only has the two blue keys (bought new) I think the change from 2 blue + red was sometime around the year 2001 though probably varied from model to model.

Big thanks!

Thanks very much for all your replies. Exactly the information I required.

One final point. Where's the best place to buy a car cover for the Multipla model. Have bought a couple, but they are far too small.

Thanks again.

Re: Keys/Keycode advice

Hi all,

Have prized open the blue key to my Multipla as the battery has packed up. I presume it's just a simple case of replacing the battery and clicking the key back into place, right? No key coding required?

Regards,
Paul.

Re: Keys/Keycode advice

Hello Lexcerm

That's about the size of it. You don't need to recode the key just because you've changed the battery.

If you find once you've replaced the battery that the key still doesn't work, check that the red light comes on, if it doesn't the microswitch on the back of the circuit board has probably come off. Be careful as you take the key apart as it might be lying in the bottom, and it's not very big.

Just needs soldering back on - any competent garage shoud be able to do this for you. I had one done for £12 at local Renault dealer, as my local Fiat dealer preferred to sell me a complete new key at circa £174. I don't think so!!

Hope that helps.

Re: Keys/Keycode advice - Car Cover

Hi

With ref: to a good car cover for your Fiat Multipla, I have purchased a full car cover for my wifes Multipla off eBay from a seller known as 'Keepitdry'. At a total cost of approx £45 this cover is great value for money and covers the car very well - I'd recommend one !

Good luck
