Hello all, I'm new to this list...I've got a question about a noise which has developed from the rear of my Multipa, a sort of intermitant squeak/high-pitched whine. At first I though it was the breaks but have had these checked out and all ok. The only other thing I can think is that it's the shocks, any advice?

Hello, I'm no expert but it could be that the wheel bearings are on the way out.

To check get the rear wheel off the ground and grab the tyre at the top with one hand and the bottom with the other i.e. 12 and 6 o'clock, and give it a wobble. Do the same wobble test at 3 and 9 and if there is any play then the bearing need some attention. You may also be able to hear the noise by spining the wheel whilst it's off the ground - this will also help to identify where the noise is coming from.

Hope this helps,
Tom.

I get something similar once in a while. I think it is the boot hatch not quite shutting properly. Try opening and shutting the boot and making sure nothing is in its way when it closes. I thought it was suspension initially!

Might not be it, but have a go.

hi guys,i know this thread is a bit old but ive got the exact same problem i must admit i only noticed it recently after i had the recall done on the brake cable,at first i thought it might be related but my dad told me it was proberbly just a stone stuck behind a brake pad,ive just traveled to wales and back with the the family and on the way there the screeching was really anoying,it isnt the rear bearings as ive just had them both replaced, and the funny thing is on the way back i didnt hear the noise once,it seems to be intermitent, could the boot being slightly open really be the problem ,can somebody explain this to me please or offer any other advise on what it could be,many thanks

Must be the healing power of the Welsh air ;)

I had a similar thing once and after putting my eldest in the boot to find out where the noise was it turned out to be the actual boot latch had come a bit loose. Just needed tightening up and been fine since. (y)

I've got the same problem although mine seems to be a badly adjusted brake caliper. I'm sick of taking it to garages neither the main dealer or the local garage found the problem so far I've replaced the front pads and both handbrake cables.

I've now put my faith im my mate who is a mechanic, hopefully he can diagnose it correctly.

I think it's definately the brake as their is a build up of heat after travelling for a few miles.
