(T) Multipla Recall Front Springs Breaking

if its outwith the given chassis numbers then no.

however 3rd year should cover it.

I bought a second hand multipla with a chassis number in the band concerned. I found out about the problem from the owners forum website. I phoned fiat central to see if my car had been dealt with. It had been done in 2006 because it turned out to have been an ex dealership demonstrator. The irony is that just two days after phoning FIAT the front suspension spring snapped wrecking the tyre and brake pad sensor. FIAT would only pay for the replacement part but the labour had to be at FIAT at £78 per hour. I took it to my local man who replaced the broken spring with a NON FIAT part for £50 and £20 per hour labour. BE WARNED, just because they have been replaced does't mean they won't go again. I am having the other spring replaced with the NON Fiat part shortly.

After much to-ing and fro-ing; finding out that our Multi is an import, having to get the dealer to get permission from Italy to perform the recall, that dealer going broke and finding another, we finally got the recall done on ours today! Well done to JG Burgess in Sittingbourne in Kent, a small, family looking dealer that has apparently been going for 25 years. They even supplied a courtesy car whilst ours was being done!

Hi everyone Im new to this have a fiat idea it has always had a noise on the front, ,only my husband could hear it from day one and we had it checked a few times, also wrote to fiat to be told no problem. Last night the front drivers side went bang and now the car has dropped on the wheel. Lucky for us just as we leaving our drive. We bought it new Jan 2005 but it was manufactured in 2004. Does this sound the same problem as the multipla. Glad

Just bought an 02 Multipla JTD - had it around 4 weeks and driven it about 4 miles due to all the faults (But that's for another post).

Anyhow - my chassis number is ZFA18600002151663 - does this mean our car affected? I have a funny feeling it is...

If so, will Fiat still do the work after all this time? Any cost implications before I call Fiat to enquire?

I'm in the Derby area - if anyone has the name of a decent Fiat specialist around here, please let me know. This car is nothing but trouble.

I've got a w reg Multipla which I bought three years ago, found out about the springs recall and refuse to drive it til the non- Fiat dealer dealt with it.The dealer knew nothing about it as they were not Fiat but I knew as our Punto had been into Fiat for a service and mentioned I was getting a Multipla. They had the recall work done by a Fiat dealer. There should be a way of non-brand garages being able to check for potential recalls on cars when they sell a second hand motor and not letting it be up to the customer to do abit of detective work to see if the car they are buying has a recall, I'm sure not every one checks.

Three years later these springs have broken, luckily the car was just sitting in the drive when it happened. There appears to be no recourse on the fitting of these new springs even though I would say they haven't lasted...although I hear from many people that lots of cars have problems with front springs snapping in a much shorter time (Peugeot vans in particular.) I think there is a serious design fault here, they were replaced as they could puncture the tyre when they broke but by all accounts this still could have happened. I am so glad I was not driving along the motorway when it happened with my kids in the back, doesn't bear thinking about.

I did speak to a Fiat dealer today, no help. They said there was no length of guarantee or warranty on the springs that were replaced under the recall. new springs being replaced by my regular garage, I will not use Fiat dealer as the labour charges are astronomical...nearly 70 quid an hour(Arnold Clark) and the customer service is usually terrible.

I hope these new springs last a decent length of time!!

There is......all non-brand garage have to do is phone dealer with chassis & get instant answer over the phone but most (if not all) dont bother.

Hi, let me get this right. I have a year 2000 on a W reg. If my diesel JTD vin number is between the numbers stated I should in theory have two new front springs fitted for free. Nothing to pay. ?

I am here in Cork Ireland and just checked chassis number on the Uglybug, Thanks I will be ringing garage tomorrow as it was purchased from a fiat dealer last December

That's a bummer!
The write up on the AA's recall pages say they're replaced with 'a new type', which would certainly lead most people to think it was a final fix;
Surely it's not impossible to seal the sleeves/sheaths properly?
Mine were also done in '06 according to the dealer I phoned, best get under and have a look asap!

Had a look at my front springs whilst checking my ARB, they don't have any sleeving/sheathing on them.

has anybody had their front springs replaced recently? I have just had one go on the Driver’s side, Luckily the wife was just pulling out of the street and not on the motorway.

Anyway having checked this site for the recall details and subsequently calling the local dealer they have advised me that they are not aware of this recall ever having existed.

I called Customer relations (they should change their name) and they also advised that there is no recall. My chassis number is definitely within the band listed on the first post, is there anything else I should quote to them? has this recall finished? Apparently my case has been escalated and promised a call back within 2 days, not that this helps with car off the road.
