I was looking for somewhere to post this under a 'General' heading on the forum, but as almost all of my posts are in the Multipla section, this'll do!

It appears that Photobucket lost the plot last week and decided to charge an extortionate annual fee to host linked images. Almost all of the images I've put in my posts are hosted on my Photobucket account. At the moment, they still seem to be showing OK, but I don't expect that to be the case for much longer.

So - this is just to apologise in advance for many of the posts I've made here being ruined by missing images. Thanks Photobucket (n)(n)(n) - you've done the world a great service by making this Muppet move.

I don't like the way the forum image hosting works as it always seems cumbersome and the inability to insert decent size images into the thread text often makes things difficult to follow. I'm interested to hear of (free) alternatives to Photobucket for indirect image hosting. I'll then close my Photobucket account.

I have a couple of blogs with blogger.com, I upload the pics to there and link to them if I can't upload a pic direct to a forum.
It is free and you are not obliged to run it as a blog, but if you do you can stuff all the pics into one posting on it.

I've used PB before - the US based site preferred it..,

but on here - I've only used the FF service , and has been fine for me..,

at least I'm safe in the knowledge that - after spending an hour writing / compiling a tech GUIDE - the pics will be there as long as the guide itself

on another note - would either of you consider attending a local meet if we organised one in the south west..??

Yes, but I wouldn't be able to bring the car. It's well and truly off the road atm (i.e. in bits). "South west" is also a big place. I'm closer to Birmingham or London than I am to Plymouth!

we appreciate that Wilts is a pretty big county,

but we have other members in Avon , etc who are after a meet "down your way",

so suggestions of a nice cafe / etc ( parking is a must.. ;)) are most welcome.

When I was a member of a Lancia Beta Club we met up at

http://www.haynesmotormuseum.com/groups-clubs/car-clubs

It's on the A303 so it is good for anyone travelling east-west from Devon and Wilts and not too bad for access from Dorset/Somerset/Avon.

They have a breakfast club meet facility

Well, it's finally happened to all of my linked images, so I've just logged on at Photobucket, deleted all of my albums and closed the account, leaving this message when asked why I wanted to close it:

"Photobucket's decision to no longer host images for third party links (specifically on forums/fora). This has been very clumsily handled by Photobucket and has done untold damage to countless threads. I will never use Photobucket or any of their services again and am actively advising against them wherever possible because of their actions."

Adios Photobucket.
