Hi guys, 17" wheel fitting advice needed

Can I ask what size tyres I can get away with, the alloys came with 205 40 17, et35, I'm happy to buy spigot rings and wobble bolts as they are 4x100 and you can fit +-2mm,

I'd just like to check what size tyres I can get away with, I may look at arches in future and a more extreme offset ?

I've got 16's on my spare bug. The tyre sizes are 205-55x16.
I put one on my 04 bug as a get-out-of-jail job and the only snag I had was the hub centre was a very tight. It seemed to go on ok but it was a bit of a pig to get it off. I wasn't aware 17's were available for the bug.

Thanks guys, I've bought some 17" aes alloys, tyres are 205 40 17 so very little difference rolling diameter, I've also just bought some hubcentruc 4x98 spacers and correct spigot rings, I need to order a set of wobble bolts as the alloys are 4x100 pcd

We used to run 17s on our bug, but youll possibly find that the 40 profile is too shallow and compromises the ride notably.

Yes the bug will have less body roll, but at the same time youll feel bumps and lumps much much more, and bugs dont need an excuse to rattle something in the suspension department eh?

215 45 17, and 205 50 17 became the sort of tyres we settled on, and they were a lot better compromise.

Yes theyre a little taller than original, but it was all beneficial. The speedo becomes more accurate, the cruising a little less revs, and mpg resembled a tad closer to the truth! Lol!

We now run 18 x 8j with 225 40 18 rubbber, but selling up soon and putting 15s back on, big wheels certainly aren't to everyone's taste but it made the bug definitely stand out!

205/45/17 are the correct size you want but the 40's will be ok.

Hi guys, I've put some pics on the Facebook forum as I've now fitted 20mm hubcentric spacers and gone back to the fiat alloys as my 17s are not well balanced.

I would recommend the spacers to everyone, the car feels a lot more stable through the bends and will only improve with new lowering springs and a decent tracking setup.

Fiat did supply the Multipla with 17's from new. My 2007 Eleganza had them.

Awful blessed things. Looked fabulous but very fragile. Can't find a picture at the moment, but I'll see what I can do.

I hear that the Multipla drives much nicer on 15" wheels on the UK's terrible potholed roads as the low profile tyres required on the 17's transmit a lot of harshness into the car?

Yes, I never drove a nosejob Mutli on 15's, but the 17's were harsh, pricey to shod and very fragile. I smashed two to bits on potholes on seperate occaisions.

Howver, they did look the dogs b....... !
