Had to take off wing mirror to repair. When I put back and connected, got the above warning. But air con is fine. Any ideas how to clear other than paying out £50 to get hooked up to diagnostic at garage. I seem to remember a lead is available via eBay and there was a link here to download the software. I am unable to find that old link.any ideas. Thanks in advance

Ahhh silly me lol

19jtd elx 53 (04) plate.

Thanks for reply mate .

A bit of a long shot, but try turning the ignition to first click ('MAR') leave there for at least 30 seconds, then turn it back off, then start the engine. I seem to remember something along these lines doing a 'soft' reset for some of the less critical parts of the ECU. I've just tried searching the forum but found nothing - must be using the wrong search terms.

Does the Multipla have an outside air temperature sensor mounted under the mirror similar to the Stilo? If it does, it probably sends a signal to the climate control (if fitted). If the connection to the sensor was not made when replacing the mirror, that may have triggered the warning.

:yeahthat:

The common thing here is the outside temp sensor. Did you replace the mirror with an alternative? Have you lost the temp sensor? Or just not managed a clean connection when refitting it?

Yes, on models with climate control. The little pip that houses it is visible on the lower outer edge of the mirror housing.

Thanks for input guys. This makes sense. The mirror was snapped at the crappy alloy mounting. I took off to repair and re fitted. Yes it does have the temp nipple on under side of mirror. Thing is the its always been temperamental and doesn't always give outside temp. Since the mirror got brocken , it never does.
Why on earth would the outside temp sensor have any relavence. Though I don't doubt your theories. Really don't want to have to buy new mirror as I'm just fixing her up to sell. Just got new MOT glow plugs going in Saturday. What a pain in the back side.

IIRC the aircon operates at three different levels of intensity. The setting it operates at depends on the difference in temp between the setting you choose and the outside temp. Marty.

Believe it or not, I'm an A/c engineer. I know its different in a car. But very odd factoring outside temp.
So what are my options other than getting a new mirror. I'm assuming resetting will only result in the error coming back as I know outside sensor doesnt work.
Thanks again for replies

It needs to know the outside temp because the a/c compressor won't kick in (isn't needed) if the ambient air is 6deg or less.
Can't you renew the wiring to the sensor and the connector? A few minutes soldering would save you the cost of a new mirror. It's very unlikely that the sensor is faulty, much more likely to be the wiring.

Unless you've damaged the sensor, the issue is likely to be the wiring or its connection. Might be a simple fix, once the mirror is off again.

I can't see the temp sensor as a separate part on ePER. It is for my Panda, costing around £70, so a breaker's might be a better bet if you need a sensor.

But very odd factoring outside temp.

It's not only the OAT sensor. Some models also have a solar radiation sensor mounted on top of the dashboard, left and right cabin air temperature sensors and a pollution sensor. Pollution sensor closes the air recirculation flap if it senses traffic pollution entering the car. There's also a function in the body computer that closes the flap when using the windscreen washers, just so you don't get the smell of washer fluid in the car. Again, I don't know how much of this applies to the Multipla, but both of my Stilos have them all.

Seem like automotive A/c systems are a bit more complicated than domestic/commercial installations. ;)

I can't be spending money on it, I guess it will just have to go as is for a fair price. Not really worth throwing money at it for the return.

Haha. If indeed it is a broken wire. I'll inspect it and see. Its quite possible its broken inside mirror unit. Due to way I had to resin it at crack I'm not sure I can open unit, not sure you can anyway. Hopefully the damage is nearer plug.
But as I said previous, the sensor rarely gave me a reading and left the display field with 2 lines. So it's possibly something else. I'll try easy fix. Thanks all.
