Hi guys, Multipla 02 seat issue.

Had a seat belt/air bag waring light on for a while now. Took it to an auto electrical specialist and the fault showed up as 'explosive device on front centre air bag'. Problem is, there is no front centre air bag.

The suggestion from the electrician was that it could be the explosive device on the seat belt. Got the part number from Fiat and ordered one off ebay as Fiat don't make them anymore. The garage cut the old one out then realised the new one didn't fit. Can't find another belt but I have seen a seat with seat belt attached but it from a 05 Eleganza. Hoping I can replace the whole lot and maybe get rid of that light.

Does anyone know if an Eleganza seat will fit an 02 JTD? or have any idea whats causing the light.

Garage have suggested that now Fiat are no longer make many of the parts for the older Multipla it could be time to get rid of it. I'm reluctant to do that as the only other thing it failed on was a bad earth on the back light assembly.

The front passenger and front centre airbags are combined (as one airbag) under the cover with 'airbag' sewn on it, in the dashboard. If that panel is removed, there is a yellow connector in with the airbag that is known to play up on occasion. It can be pulled apart and the contacts cleaned, which usually cures the problem. There are threads on here about it - at least one of them has a photo or two IIRC. The other connector to check is the orange one tucked under the carpet by the front left corner of the passenger seat, but going by the fault code readings you've described, I doubt it's that one.

Disconnect the battery before playing around with any of the airbag connectors and leave the car for a good 20/30 minutes after taking the battery leads off before attempting any work.

Thanks for reply, I've give it a try over the weekend.

OK, so had the air bag cover off on Saturday. Two yellow connectors. The one on the left was fine, connections nice and clean. The one on the right was empty. I found the connector taped up. Unwrapped it to find some wire pushed into the connector. Could this some kind of bypass?
