Hi all, fitted new alternator after old one failed. But now the battery shaped warning light is lit up on the dash ! Alternator is charging nicely good output, and battery is charging and holding charge, car is running great, auto electrician said there is no obvious problem just a typical Fiat electrical gremlin.
Any other ideas please ? It's a 51 1.6 petrol. On 120,000 miles

Hi there.

Just a thought, did the first alternator actually fail or did you just think it failed cos the battery light came on (perfectly reasonable) and you are now just repeating the fault?

Also, as suggested, could be a faulty/dirty earth around the battery or similar. On my old uglybug, the battery terminal to body earth was very corroded and that made some dashboard instruments do a little dance and some warning lights come on. A good clean with penetrating fluid to remove nasty green stuff, a scrub with a wire brush and smear of vaseline sorted things out.

Panda:)

Alternator failed ,I got stranded, the AA got me home, funny thing is the car has been running much better since the alternator was replaced. I will check all the earths etc,.

There was no light on or prior warning, just the message saying alternator fault , go to garage.
So brand new alternator fitted, everything running fine , just the annoying battery warning light on.

So one week after new alternator fitted, it failed. Got towed home again by the AA, it's back to the garage to have another one fitted. I hope this time it won't be a dodgy one and the battery light issue will be sorted too.
