I recently fitted a new DMF and Clutch to my JTD and ever since my crank pulley sounds like it is being hit with a big hammer on startup and ONLY when warm. First thing in the morning it is fine. It is the second Pulley in the space f as many months. Both started off quiet and then slowly developed this noise.

I am wondering if the new DMF has somehow changed the torsional characteristics of the crankshaft ?? I used a LUK DMF/Clutch combo which is listed as being correct for the Multipla. There is NO noise coming from the DMF and the clutch is working sweet. Once started the engine is absolutely smooth and pulls like a train. Although there is a slight very feint rattle from the pulley when I start to pull off in first or reverse.

Occasionally the engine coughs or wheezes necessitating a second start attempt as though there is not enough momentum in the flywheel to create a smooth transition from compression stroke to fire.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I am considering putting the old DMF back in with a new VALEO clutch. The old DMF was fine, I only changed the lot as I thought I wouldn't have to revisit the job again.

Can't say that I have. Where the clutch/DMF is concerned, I don't think you can mix a Valeo clutch with an LUK DMF & vice versa, but I'm not sure why?

What make is the crank pulley? I've seen mention of some no-name ones giving problems, but not on the Multipla. Is the noise definitely coming from the pulley?

I am not mixing. If I put the Valeo DMF back on it will be with a Valeo clutch. I got my daughter to start the car a few times whilst I lay underneath and it is definitely from that area. I took off the aux belt to isolate the other spinning items and the noise was still there.

As I said though it is only on start and only since I did the job. Everything else is tight, engine mountings were all changed around 3 years ago and it only does it when hot suggesting thermal expansion is playing a part. I have bought a new Fiat pulley ( only to discover its actually a Dayco ) which I will put on sometime this week. The others were cheap eBay ones.
