Since I'm a bit of a noob to this side of the forum i thought I'd have a search through the many pages.
I've got to page 70 at present and there are many recurring issues so I thought I'd post up the most common in no particular order.

1. Diesel egr troubles
2. Radius arm bushes / subframe bushes (all models)
3. Thermostat woes (diesels)
4. Anti roll bar bushes / drop links (all models)
5. Front & rear springs breaking (all models)
6. Clutches / dmfs (diesels)
7. Front pulleys (diesels)
8. Glow plug issues (diesels)
9. Leaky/ non working sunroofs (all models)
10. Dash warning lights / air bags (all models)
11. Damaged sumps (why?)
12. Spare wheel winch woes (all models)
13. Air con not working (all models)
14. Front lower suspension arms ( all models )
15. Font shock absorber top mounts ( all models )
16. Rear shock absorbers leaking ( all models )
17. Stiff / broken gear selector / cables ( all models )
18. Radio code gone (all models)
19. Alarm / remote locking problems (all models)




These seem to be the main multipla problems people have been repeatedly posting about.
Happy to report there aren't many posts about dead dpf's but lots of scare mongering so that's not so bad.

Nice to see some decent tuning threads (diesels and engine swaps)
Does seem a bit lacking in handling tuning posts which I hope to add too.
These little cars have so much in common with their older cousins from fiat.
The front and rear suspension and brakes look like they've been borrowed from the brava/o / marea / coupe clan so I'm confident big improvements can be made.

I've not seen any posts on rust which I find amazing and very happy about. My old marea and coupes are cursed with the tin worm!
Although the rear suspension mounting/ inner wheel arch looks like it could suffer the same rust issues as the coupe if left alone.
 
That entire list can be applied to MANY other cars as well. The Multipla's are actually pretty damn reliable. My VERY first car was a 1961 Fiat Multipla also known as the 600D, ugly thing and already 24 years old when I got it in 1985 but it too served me well as a skint teenager. As the other man said, cars give trouble primarily beacuse of BAD owners BUT also because they are made by humans and humans aren't perfect, as such what a human makes won't be perfect either. I qualified as a Honda mechanic back in the late 80's and whilst I left the trade to go into IT soon after I have ALWAYS continued fixing cars ever since and have seen just as many defects in many other cars. If you believe one marque to be better than another you are living in LALA land. They ALL give trouble, some more than others perhaps but typically Italian cars are fast and handle well so people rape them and then wonder why they break. The number of IGNORANT muppets I see in my area alone hitting speed bumps at well over 30mph on a daily basis is staggering and yet guaranteed when their tracking goes out or when they get that bill for lower arms, ball joints etc they will blame the car !!!!

Drive your Multipla and enjoy it. As problems arise fix them but don't dwell on them.
 
Very true, served my time at Mercedes and did a stint at VW, they're no more reliable than anything else.
I've had most of the Fiat range over the years and the multipla shares most of its suspension with the other 90s models including my coupes.
 
To the list of problems I would add, in my experience, worn out track rod ends and drop links arms, we have a LOT of speed bumps in South Wales and I drive slowly over them, but some are like mountains.
Not many posts on handling, because what can you do?
I've tried lowered springs, this does help but ruins comfort more than you'd think, also makes the already low front prone to hitting things, sumps?, plus cant get a jack underneath!
However on the plus side it has a wide track so is stable at high speeds and never feels on stilts, plus feels safe and sure footed due to its understeery (DIESEL) setup. I imagine its one of the best handling old busses out there, as standard.
 
Glowplugs are not needed but the job is VERY easy with the right tool and to not have that damn light flashing is priceless
