So nowadays I need to click pre heat twice from cold start to get the engine going, or 5 times for luck on a very cold day lol...
I was gonna leave it until it gets colder again but might just be worth looking at replacing the plugs now...?

Would cheap ones off eBay work as well as Bosch ones? Or does brand name equal quality?

I've no actual experience of cheaper ones, but if they are a known brand, like NGK, they'll be ok. If they are unbranded, they'll likely be lower quality. This could mean a shorter life, the upside being they're easier to get out next time, or worse, they might not get hot enough, so not much better than now. Choose with care.

Denso and Beru are fine. Established manufacturers.
I see Euro are selling Hidria, not come across them before.

Sorry can't help with the glow plugs but I may be interest in the alloys. Got any pictures?

ebay is a lottery for practically anything nowadays. Personally I would go to my local motor factors & purchase what they recommend. These guys generally know what works/breaks or what is preferred.

Totally off topic, apologies, & not directed at anyone in particular, I've seen some who will spend £££'s on fashion/add ons for their car & skimp on servicing parts, just what you don't want to do.

There are times when ownership of a vehicle just needs things doing to it at a cost, & really you can't get away with it....(y)

What I mean is that it starts unlike in the winter

Glowplugs are still necessary in summer. Diesel engines ignite the fuel by the heat produced in compressing the air. At startup, even in summer, most of that heat will soak into the engine, giving poor combustion. The glowplugs give a hot spot to ignite the fuel more efficiently. Poorly burnt, or unburnt fuel will wash lubricating oil from the bores, leading to rapid wear of bores and rings, as well as lots of smoke.

If you don't do it now, it'll not get done, then as winter sets in, you'll be stranded at a bad time.

I know you're right... I'm needing more space and might be looking for something else, much as I would miss my multipla it's not practical anymore and I begrudge spending money on it...
This is a sudden change of heart in case you're all thinking why did I post about this then...

A little snippet many don't realise is that these pickups are commercial vehicles not cars, so subject to lower speed limits on single and dual carriageways. Some police forces are hot on this, especially Devon and Cornwall.
