Hi everyone,
I have a multipla eliganza 06
Recently for some reason while I was driving it started to rev out of control, I switched engine off, got it towed to garage, they saying they not sure if engine is ok, but they took it for a run and all looks good, I have driven it, it seems to be ok but the I'm kind of tentative about driving it, the mechanic says that it was oil that caused the problem, getting into the coolant, he isn't a 100%, sure if the engine has recovered from this traumatic incident, and says it needs new glow plugs, which probably will help, the car does start but not as good as it did, so under these circumstances what do any of you think?
I have no clue about the mechanics of any car reason for asking.
Thank you for taking your time to read this.......

None of his suggestions make sense. Glow plugs only operate on start and it is impossible for them to overrun the engine same with oil. Did they check fault codes? Measurement fault at accelerator pedal or throttle body, or stuck throttle or a wiring fault would my guesses

It sounds to me like the garage thinks it was a head gasket failure with oil causing a runaway. Diesels will run on their own oil if it gets into the cylinder(s).
Did the garage do any repairs? If it happened once it will happen again unless the cause is fixed. I'd think it would need the head off to see what went wrong. With luck a new head gasket will fix it.

Hi, and welcome, :)

the issue of oil in the coolant -
is normally a symptom of another issue / failure:eek:

the 2 fluids should always remain separate,
and it means a seal or gasket has failed.

how often / when was the oil , or coolant last changed..??

regarding starting;
try this = turn on ignition, wait for the glowplug "curly" symbol to go out,
then turn off, and do it again,
heat the plugs 3 x rounds - THEN turn the key the extra bit to turn the engine on the starter,
IF it starts better like this., then YES you have a sick glowplug..however you'd normally have a warning light ( the Curly symbol flashing)..,

RE read your post and still would not jump to a major problem. Did they change the coolant due to this oil? What work was on the invoice? If the car is still running ok still suspect an electrical issue. So if it happens again don't panic. Just drop or slip the clutch enough to control speed to a safe place to stop and if safe see if there is a lot of smoke out back. Then try another garage..

Thanks all for your help I have taken on board what you have said and will go down the paths you all have suggested......

Thank you all very much......
