Just putting a radio into my latest Bug, plugged it in, slid it into the radio slot, turned on the ignition, turned on the radio and it displayed 'WAIT' . . .
So I waited, and waited and waited. . . after much waiting it still shows 'WAIT' can anyone help please.
How long must I 'WAIT' before I can try the code?
Why does it display 'WAIT', I'm thinking it may be because the radio sat in my shed for 12 months before I got round to installing it and now it's sulking or maybe the last owner put the wrong code in and locked it?
If that's the case how do I unlock it?
Any help would be gratefully received.

According to the Sound System handbook:

"The waiting time will gradually increase (1 min, 2 min, 4 min, 8 min, 16 min, 30 min, 1h, 2h, 4h, 8h, 16h, 24h) to a maximum of 24 hours each time you enter a wrong code.

The waiting time will be shown on the display along with the "WAIT" message. You can start the code entry procedure once the message disappears from the display."

Thanks for your reply WMF, I had a feelingsomething like that was happening. I've waited for quite a time and pondered just how many times the wrong code had been entered.
I see the wait sign but no time is attached to it.
I can only assume that I'll have to wait till it decides I've waited long enough

Is the waiting time accumulative or does it need to switched on continuously in order to clear the lock?

Switched on continuously I would guess. Could you leave it connected to a battery, out of the car?

Had a feeling it might be, it's been on about 12 single hours since I put it in and it still shows 'WAIT'
I'm not sure which is the power lines to set it up on a separate battery.
Any ideas?

Don't I remember seeing a sticker on the top of the head unit that details all the connections? In the meantime, this site may give you what you're after:

I did hook up a battery and left it on, but it would shut down itself after about 12hrs.
Switching it back on only brought up the 'wait' again.

I think it's havin a 'she' moment

Interesting that it should completely shut down after 12 hours. It makes no mention of that in the handbook. I've never had cause to deal with this problem - both of my head units have the code and aren't 'locked' by code time-out. Might it be worth a PM to Davren - I think he's the one that deals with providing unlock codes for people that have lost theirs. I know this isn't the same, but he may know what to do.

I've never heard of that problem.

Assume you have both the permanent and switched power supplies connected during the waiting time?

Davren: put me right on which pegs to hang the wires on please, I had only a pos + neg off the battery on to the radio.

You suggest there should be a third wire? Where does that go?
