03 1.6 elx petrol.

Just got the car on weds and a weird fault has developed this morning..

Whenever I start the car the clock resets itself to midnight and the radio has totally ceased to function... Whether the two are related or not I have no idea but both having happened at the same time would suggest they are. All other electrics seem to be fine...

Don't know Multiplas, but faults suggest that the permanent 12V connection to the clock and radio has failed. As you have just fitted the radio I'd unplug that and check the cars fuses first. It's also possible that the main power and permanent 12V to the radio are crossed and the current draw from the radio has blown the fuse.

Cant find any diagram of what the under dash fuses are. Dont want to just go tugging them willy nilly...

Handbook lists 2 fuses for "Sound system" - Nos. 12 & 13. Instrument lights are also on 12, along with the clock and the rest of the instruments. Fuse 12 is under the tray in the glove box compartment in front of the driver - 3rd row down, second from the left. Fuse 13 is immediately to the right of it.

If you've just changed the stereo, I'd be tempted to go back in there and look for an inadvertent short in the bundle of wires behind it, as it's very cramped in there. You can ease things slightly by reaching around the back of the dash form underneath as you push the head unit in, pulling the loom back as it goes. The rubber locator sticking out the back of the OEM unit can be a pain to get into its hole. You won't have that problem with an aftermarket unit.

Solved. Found a fuse diagram... Replaced fuse 12 and it popped again instantly, taking the mini fuse on the back of the stereo with it. Pulled the head unit entirely, replaced the fuse immediately and all working again. Tried a different head unit and its all groovy again.
