Hello Peeps.
I have had a 'MK1' multi since 2000 and now at 140K its just about giving up the ghost. I have been looking since before Christmas for a replacement, and have finally found one. A very nice 07 with just 55k on it and a FSH. One owner since new.
So I have been 'down sarf' today to collect it. It drove very well and was quite different from my old one. So I have some questions.
I did notice a slight turbo lag as opposed to my old car, but plenty of power. Is this lag typical of the newer engine?
On the motorway, at proper motorway speeds! I managed to get 42mpg My old one managed nearer 50! again, is this normal?
Anyone on here have any expirience of a suitable 'chip' to use on the engine? I know that there are lots of choices on this so just thought you may well have a preference.
Many thanks.
Chris.

this is something i'd like to know myself as i've been looking at them but the prices range hugely but all claim to be the same thing since sliced bread

Of the plug-in type, the Synergy 1 or 2 was quite good (As sold by 'Rover Ron'). It had an adjuster on it to tweak the amount of gain and where in the rev range it came. But they're not made any more. They come up from time to time on ebay. They were around £100-180 when new. You can actually detune the JTD with this box to improve economy if you so wish. The weak point when tweaking the Multipla JTD is the clutch. Any strong gains in low down torque will induce slip in the standard clutch, especially when towing. Generally, it's safer to avoid any tuning box or remap that boosts power to more than 140bhp because of this.

The best route is to have a proper remap, but they are expensive (typically £3-400). Plus if you want it done properly on a rolling road you've got the hassle of getting your car there and leaving it with the tuner while you twiddle your thumbs for a 1/2 day.

Thanks for that. Much as I thought really. You would need some real MPG gains to recoup your £300! Lighter foot may ne a better bet.
Now about the turbo lag...EGR valve? any thoughts?
Thanks.

I think I said it was Blue! However how do I find out which Blue it is as I need to get some touch up paint, as one does!
