Right folks I know this has been covered to death but thought I would share my MPG results using the brim to brim method.
£80 to fill the tank then I got 687 miles before I filled it up again, £78.59 to refill it again so not far off the point where I filled it up 1st.

MPG = 49.07 which is FANTASTIC I think. (far better that the 38.6 MPG the trip computer displays)

There was 340 miles on the motorway doing a steady 65MPH and the rest was around town going to work that kind of stuff

what engine is it , i'm going to saundersfoot pembrokeshire tommorrow for a few days camping with 2 of my lads it's 250 miles there and obviously the same back :D and i've just filled mine to the brim so i'll see what i get out of mine for comparison , i've got a 2004 jtd115

Currently mid point of a brim to brim myself after getting the EGR valve sorted out.
520km for half the tank (although the gauge isn't that trustworthy).
Did 400k of that today on motorway 110kph +- 10kph
Showing 6.2l/100k (converted to 45.5 MPG-UK) on gauge.
Will know more in a few days.

The top half of the tank is waaaaaaayyyyyyy bigger than the bottom half, going by the fuel gauge anyway. If you want a laugh, switch to 'range remaining' on your trip computer for the last quarter-tank. The figure will drop a lot faster than you put miles on.

I have the same 2004 and 1.9JTD115
Good luck

. . . far better that the 38.6 MPG the trip computer displays . . .
Don't forget, the MPG figure is an average, from when the trip computer was last reset.
The 'Range' function is an instantaneous readout (or as near-as-dammit, updates every 15 seconds or so I think?), gives a much better idea of your on-the-spot economy.

When I'm playing with it, I'll quite often get to work (for instance), a 12-mile mostly M-way journey, with more range showing than when I left home (usually because my Wife was the last one driving it :p)!

If you reset it while on a steady M-way trip, the MPG figure will show 29mpg or thereabouts, but stick to 60-ish, and it'll quickly climb to the low 50s.
Tuck in behind a Double-decker coach at 65mph and you can see your mpg hit the mid 60's (y)

It's not bad really, considering it has the aerodynamics of a large breeze-block.
Another method for improving your economy is to tow a small camping trailer, piled up with gear, it fills in the aerodynamic 'dead' spot behind.
I found this out on a trip to Wales years ago, my mpg went up significantly, and despite it pouring with rain for a lot of the trip, I didn't have to switch my rear wiper on once.

Re: Brim to brim MPG results

Filled up today. 57.4L for 830km.
So that's 6.9l/100k.
The car was showing 6.3l/100k
Nothing like I was hoping for, that's 41 MPG-UK

What is the capacity of the tank? 63L?
Gauge was showing 1/8 full, but that dies to nothing very quickly.

. . . What is the capacity of the tank? 63L? . . .

Only ever filled up to the brim from empty once, when Diesel was around £1.35/lt
Cost me £80  , which would put the 'useable' capacity at 60lts, so 63lts is probably about right..

Never-ever fill up now, stick to around £20~15lts max, and always run it down through three 'Fuel Required' warnings beforehand.

60 lts is around 50kg, you're lugging all that extra weight around, which lowers your MPG figure.

Fill mine up once a month and still have over half a tank most months, the readout is a waste of space I get way more miles than it says, done over 1600 miles in the highlands last year on 2 1/2 tanks then a top up for home journey ?

Brim to brim MPG results

Just a tad!
Full tank, that would be around 77mpg.

Most I've seen is 64-ish, draughting a double-decker coach doing 65mph

It's true I filled up to the top the night before setting off and reset the miles readout thing, I didn't touch it again until I got home, dunbeath northwest scotland upto Thurso john o groats back down to Loch Ness around the highlands, the trip to tesco in wick was about forty miles round trip (every other day) then down to the rosslyn Chappell South of Edinburgh and home, just over 1600 miles we done I couldn't belive it either but that's what the car trip thing said ?

I said 2 1/2 tanks and topped up for the journey home so 3 tanks that sounds about right ? On the motorway I get about 750-800 miles it's nothing special

starting from a full tank and re-filling when i get the fuel required message i got 734 miles from a tank and if my math's is correct.........which it probably isn't as it wasn't my strongest subject at school as i seem to remember........ it's doing roughly nearly 53 mpg and if thats correct i'm more than happy with that as alot of the time it's packed with kid's , dog's , shopping , camping gear and everything including the kitchen sink sometimes all at the same time , no need for the radio to be on as i can't hear the bloody thing :D
