Folks, this will probably sound like a really stupid question........

I've just received a new crankshaft sensor from mr auto, checked the oem part no. with fiat before ordering so know I have the right one. It has arrived as the sensor only, no lead. Before I take it to the garage does that sound right to those of you who've done the job yourself?

Looking at the sensor it clearly has a 2 pin connector in one end....Just hope that it's not the lead on it's way out!

It's pi**ing down at the moment so don't fancy crawling under the car!

It does strike me however, that if it is a pull off push on jobbie then it's easier than the guide in the punto section, which will be nice

Mine had a lead with plug on the end and 10 mm bolt holds it in place, the lead goes half way up the back of the engine where it plugs in ? Mine was a y reg, got an 04 now not checked that one

Thanks for being the sole replier.........:)

I got it up on ramps last night and the lead is a pull off/push on jobbie with a strange locking mechanism that defeated me, mainly because I wasn't brave enough to risk breaking it!

Took it to my garage today and he popped the old one out and new one in in just over 5 minutes, making me feel very foolish......Luckily the box of home grown eggs I took him in as a thank you for squeezing me in at short notice was enough, he didn't even want a drink out of it.

Mine's an 04 plate; so the replacement Bosch sensor comes without a lead, it's a much simpler job than the guide on the Stilo forum. I just hope that the problem is solved, you never know with a multipla do you?

My first multi y reg used to cut out when idling, it would start again strait away, my cam sensor was different when hot it would not start at all, that was much harder to change as it is behind the cam pulley,

Hi, new to here looking for a bit of help if anyone can. Multipla 2002, red engine warning light, pulled over stopped car, car wouldn't restart, turned over...turned over... waited ....waited....batt died from turning over and not starting. Called AA, He tried jumping it, no dice, he ran diagnostics nothing I didn't already kno, eventually after he pulled out fuses checked diesel pump the car started, drove home 10km from home red engine warning light came on again, went to garage they told me crankshaft sensor, replaced sensor, but warning light still came back on car won't start if running and i stitch it off, any ideas anybody ? EGR valve was mentioned in the diagnostics as was heater plate ???
Tanx any help or ideas appreciated

Tanx, I was out in it earlier did about 20km and engine warning light came on, I drove home, turned her off but no restart, so I don't kno from what I can gather if it's the cam shaft piston sensor then car cuts out while driving, mine doesn't ....?i may bring it to fiat and see if they can diagnose what the problem is,
Tanx M

Try this get a can of break cleaner get the car hot and turn it off, if it won't start spray a little bit of the break cleaner into the air intake when turning it over it should start up straight away if it does I think cam sensor is at fault, don't use to much break cleaner it's not good just to try will be ok

Apologies for not getting back sooner only got around to doing it today, no joy I'm afraid, got Bach from a 20km trip red light on, stopped in drive, got can brake cleaner, opened air intake spayed some in, turned key, car turned over didn't start, tried again bit more spray, turned over again kinda started but stopped, I didn't try again. What would brake cleaner have done ? Would it be worth changing the cam sensor as well ?

When my cam sensor failed it would not start when hot a quick spray of break cleaner would start it no problem, it's just highly flammable but it's not good to use it to much, I never had a dash light on so hmm not sure, there not expensive from fiat so worth a go
