Hi, sorry if it's easy to find and im being a bit thick but Google is finding nothing :(

I've bought an egr blanking plate off ebay but I could do with some instructions on how to fit it if any exist? I'm a reluctant diy mechanic so I don't want to knacker the wife's car whilst trying to fix it !

TIA :)

The trickiest part of the job is just getting your hands to it, it's pretty well buried at the back of the Engine bay.

Once you have access to it, and assuming the two bolts come out OK, it's just a simple case of sandwiching the plate in between the valve and the pipe flange.

Another option is to remove the link pipe and blank both openings, which is what I did on my original Multi.

Plenty of topics on it here, just do an advanced search for 'Blanking', and select Multipla in the 'Search in Forums' section.

A few to be going on with . . .

Although I haven't done this myself, it could actually be easier to blank at the connection to the manifold in front. More acccessable than at the EGR valve itself.
My Multijet has a sensor which puts it into limp home mode if I blank it off completely. I have put in a partial blank, with 3 holes, at the manifold and the EGR valve.
On this note, my EGR was leaking, even though I had cleaned it with brake cleaner etc. If I hadn't the partial blanks I don't know if it could be driveable.
Anyway, i took off the EGR valve yesterday and cleaned it with Mr Muscle spray oven cleaner. Just sprayed it into all the holes and left it for half an hour, then went at it as best as I could with an old tooth brush and left it for half an hour again. This is caustic stufff so wear gloves and goggles. Rinsed it off with the garden hose it worked fantastic! I'll have to take an image of the spare one and post it here, I never realised that the valve itself was stainless steel!
My Multi now drives much better and returns better mileage - 38mpg to 46mpg.
Still not 100% perfect but I did have a spare washer after, resulting in less tension on the spring which could be the reason. When I have an hour spare in the next few weeks I'll put it on.

on mine it doesn't seem to be too well buried, will have a go and hope I don't blow anything up. Many thanks for the replies :)

if this worked, should be a photo attached. In which case do I insert the plate where I'm pointing ?

assuming I'm in the right place, my hex bit H6 (assuming that's 6mm?) is too loose and my H7 bit won't fit in. I guess there are half sizes in hex heads / bits but not in my set aarggggghhhh :bang:

Mine was hex too
If it's been a little bit rounded try smacking the 6mm in a bit deeper do its in the bottom of the bolt head
And I didn't insert my plate there
I inserted it on the other connection high lighted on your pic
Up and to the left

I can get at the other one easier so that's quite good news.

It looks hex headed but I'll have to take another look as I can't find a 6.5mm hex bit to use with a socket set, Allen keys yes but I'd probably bend one of those anyway.

Confused ! I was all set to fit it and test drive it earlier too :( (n)

Fitting an egr blanking plate

. . . I can't find a 6.5mm hex bit to use with a socket set . . .
Most likely because they don't exist (y)

You could try banging a 1/4" bit in, that's equivalent to approx 6.3mm.
Or grind the end of a 7mm down a shade (and taper it slightly), and knock that in.
Giving the heads a good clout with a hammer can help too (closes the opening a bit, and can help loosen siezed threads), although with access so tight, it's not easy.

I was kinda getting that drift lol cheers for the confirmation. Bit weird I found allen keys with 6.5mm ? Anyway...

When I put a 6 in it was loose enough that it would round off if I tried turning it in the head hence I didn't even try, if these are 6mm headed bolts then I'm still confused. Day off Wednesday, will take another look at it then :)
