I've been having a fault for a while with my 2002 Multipla 110 ELX JTD where when the engine revs are on the low side, as in 5th gear, a warning comes up saying Engine Control Faulty, the warning light comes on and i go into limp mode until I restart the engine. Yesterday I removed the corrugated pipe that goes to the EGR valve and cleaned a load of gunk out that was blocking things up a bit. This morning I did the school run and had no fault reports .

Just tried blanking the EGR with a blanking plate off eBay and, although I seem to have a lot more power, the Engine Control Faulty message is back almost straight away. I'm guessing that the blockage was causing the problem all along and the blanking plate has made it recur.

Do I have to somehow reprogramme the ECU to stop this happening and can I do this myself. I bought an OBD11 bluetooth reader off eBay and have the Torque Pro app on my phone but I'm not having much joy getting it to do anything interesting.

I like the extra power that comes with the blanked EGR but the fault codes make it a no go option.

I've read drilling a 5mm hole in the plate gets rid of the warning light. on some vehicles. Whether it'll work on yours I don't know. Worth a try.
