I've just been quoted £300 for a duplicate key for my '03 Multi - surely there's a cheaper way of getting a spare key/remote?
Also - I need to replace offside foglight and nearside main beam - ebah traders advertise them as the same thing - is this possibly correct? Two interchangable parts?! On a CAR?!

A lot of the stalls in shopping centres where you can get shoes repaired, door keys cut etc (Mister Mint in Eire) can also cut and programme car keys. Bring it into them and ask.
In terms of the light, is the bulb you are looking to change?
If so, then they could easily both be the same - probably H7.
Don't skimp and go cheap, there is a load of rubbish out there.
Buy a brand, Philips, Osram etc

Thanks D.Dave - it's the whole unit that I want to change, the lens in the foglight has broken and also the reflefctor in the opposite side main beam is duff - if the units are the same then I can buy a pair cheaper than individual parts

Just getting the key cut at a Mr Minute or similar won't do you much good. You'll need the transponder that's built into the fob as well, and then need that coding to the car (which only Fiat can do, I believe, unless you've got a 'red' key for the car as well).

To get your key done at a better price than the dealers you'll need to find an auto locksmith that can do them. New keys can be made by reading the information from the cars code box which on the Multipla is underneath the storage compartment on the top of the dash.

Ta.
This was a quote from a locksmith recommended by two different garages - they said that itvwas a Fiat part tat couldn't be replicated - but £300 for a key?! The car only cost me £900!!!

Have a look on ebay. You can sometimes find folks selling a second key, which has a transponder (that can be recoded). The key shank can apparently be replaced but I'm not quite sure how as it looks moulded in to me. I also remember seeing uncut keys - i.e. blank with the blue fob, but no key internals - on ebay for about a fiver.

£300 sounds like the price for ordering a key by vin from Fiat. Keys can be made by reading the code box instead. Look for Ponsaloti on the forum if he's close to you. If not try some other locksmiths close to you. If you need the earlier 1 button remote you can use a second hand one and put it in a new case if you need the later flip remote you can use a second hand one with a new case or new aftermarket ones are available.

I used to be an auto locksmith, fiat keys can be quite difficult, the price you have been quoted is probably high because the remote itself is quite expensive.
It would be a lot cheaper if you simply wanted a non remote key, ie a key cut like your existing key which has a "transponder" inside it that is a "clone" of your existing key, the transponder is the small electronic device that has the code that will enable your car to start.
Non remote spare keys usually cost @£150...
I'd advise getting other quotes.....

Thanks Multi - the problem with the non-remote key is the alarm and how to disable it without the remote?

As in, if you go a cheaper non remote key, you dont use the alarm, just lock the doors with the key and start the car....pays your money...
I dont think there's a cheap way of getting a remote for a multipla, you usually have to order it through Fiat, but as I said, a non remote can be made cheaper without going through Fiat....

I have an old key with a transponder if you want it??? Its from a scrapped Old Multipla. Just need a postal address….

Thanks lancia8888 - I've been in my local locksmith and they reckon that the whole idea of recoding an old transponder is a non-starter as part of the process has to be done by Fiat before the locksmith/dealer/cutter does the final coding - it probably won't cost much more to get a gggenuin part coded blank from Fiat andhave the locksmith do a proper job. Thanks for the offer though
