While washing the multi this afternoon as it looked like my missus had been offroading in it i found that both front springs are snapped.

changing them is no problem as I've just bought one of the hydraulic spring compressors that i wanna try out, but my question is has anyone got a good recommendation on what brand of springs to use.

I've been unimpressed by KYB. I fitted new ones of theirs all round 2 1/2 years ago. One (rear) has snapped within a year - KYB were completely dismissive when I phoned them to complain - and the other (rear) had to be replaced because of corrosion.

I've heard good things about Lesjofors springs. A bit more money, but apparently good quality steel. No personal experience of that make though. If Bilstein made them for the Multipla, I'd go for them. But they don't.

I'm glad you've said that about kybs cuz I was eyeing up a set of those.
The lesjofors sound good and I have seen them on eBay for sale.
Eurocarparts have Sachs but are nearly £50 a side which are much more expensive than the lesjofors.
It'll be next weekend before I can do it anyway due to being skint. (y)

Oh another question is how are the diesel ones different to the petrol ones. I have a 2000 1.6 petrol multi.

You got a link to the front ones buddy?

There are a few to choose from. Just search for 'Multipla Sachs' on ebay.

As for the petrol/diesel difference - not sure. Have a look on the forum ePER? If you've got your VIN and the car isn't newer than 2005, you can get the exact Fiat part number to suit your car, then check out the ebay description or contact the seller for confirmation of a correct fit.

I would think it very unlikely that the rears are different for petrol and diesel.

I replaced both my front ones 5 years ago. TBH I just bought the cheapest I could find and touch wood the have been good for 50K. I have friends whose job is to set up manufacturing plants. They have shown me pictoral evidence of motor parts all made in the exact same factory at the same time giing into different retail boxes. Some branded Manufacturer, some big name brands and some into lesser known brands. As such I am less inclined to be swayed by a badge and focus on the fact that longevity is more to do with driving style and luck than brand.

Yeah mine broke a half a coil on the drivers side before Xmas just before mot time!

I've had 4 multiplas, and even though I've lowered lots of my previous cars, this was the 1st one where I reversed the setup back to standard. It was horrible, just too hard, and changed the character of the car for the worse.
Now I have bought a 2008 120 multi, and the ride height is a great compromise, it handles great and is also comfortable, Fiat got there in the end...
