So, picked up the Multipla on Sat and was tinkering with it today. Decided to check the jack & spare etc. Looked up the PDF manual to see where everything is. Opened the compartment to look for the jack. All I found was an echo and a can of tyre weld stuff. What tight bugger would take the jack etc, i thought? Next, on the back to look underneath for the spare - NOTHING! And I mean nothing. Not a sign of anything ever having been there. No hole from the boot to a lifting mechanism or hinges for a cage or anything.
It's on 06 JTDm Eleganza - do they not come with tools and a spare wheel?
 
My '08 Eleganza has a spsare wheel on the winch mechanism. These are notorious for corroding and many people remove them and just bolt the wheel in place of the mechanism. Is there no sign at all of the mechanism bolt holes - should be 3...
 
Perhaps it's got a can of puncture repair in with the jack and tools? The jack etc is behind a panel on the LHS of the boot (inside the car).

It has a can of spray gunk alright, Holts brand not Fiat; sitting in the space behind the panel where the jack and tools should be - but are notably not present.:confused:

I'll have a better look again, but it did appear that there was nothing ever there. Even the floor doesn't have a hole where one would twist the mechanism to drop the frame and wheel.

It strikes me that area would be a great storage area - or even for amps of someone wanted some serious ICE.:D
 
As N&J said, the spare wheel mechanism corrodes and seizes-up just for something to do (n)

The winding aperture is right at the back of the 'boot' area, left of centre, next to the door seal.
It will (or should) have a black/dark grey plastic plug in the hole.

I just carry a full-size spare in the boot, with a small trolley jack.

There is a mod to fit a length of threaded rod in place of the dubious winder mechanism, you can fit a full-size wheel underneath, in place of the space-saver version.
 
After driving a 1.7D uno for 11 years we decided to by a 2005 Multipla. The UNO has 450,800kms.
During my examination and familiarization I found the carrier mech was not working so I searched the forum and read all the comments and suggestions.
With nothing to lose I dismantled the gearbox and found this one had stripped 2 teeth off the plastic gearwheel, not repairable.
The alloy worm is fine if anyone wants it for the post charges.
I ummed and arred a bit and then found 301635041408 on ebay, this is a Fiat genuine part, so FIAT must have made this item to replace the crap gearbox.
One of the forum contributors suggested that we carry a compressed puncture repair kit and dispose of the space saver wheel, so this must have happened with the OP`s car.
I will do both. Thank you everyone.

This looks interesting I've just removed my crappy spare wheel holder. How would you fit this to the car?

If you look on the ebay entry item thingy, it says you screw the new bolt into the central hole of the 4 where the old unit used to be screwed.
It has a knurled surface to be able to screw it in tight.

Nine posts on the forum in over 7 years and still active. I think you could justifiably be called a 'sleeper'!

Thing is, I have never had a problem with any of my FIAT`s so I just read other members comments for amusement.
We bought our first Multipla on Sunday 10th April, 19 years after I came out of hospital having had septicemia.
I spent 35years restoring stuff like Fiat 500`s 126,127, 128,131, 132 and lada`s yugo`s Seat`s plus Uno`s panda`s brava`s X19`s and anything else that was thrown at me.

I did find that when the rod came I had to use part of the old mechanism enlarge a hole in the centre of where the wheel fits.
Then with a thin nut and anormal nut the rod was used to fit a
rather heavy space saver wheel using a washer and a wing nut.
It seems ok but I think I will use a nylon strap just incase!!
Why do Fiat employ such pathetic design "engineers"?

Just thought I'd share what I've ended up doing. I ordered one of those fist parts. It was tiny and thin and looked like it would snap if you put anything heavier than a feather on it. I ended up getting a long bar of studding and some appropriate nuts and spring washers and some metal plates. Drilled a whole in the rear floor. Ran the length of studding through the hole and bolted it up top and bottom. The bolted the spare to that. Cost all of £3 from a small local hardware shop and I've still got studding left over.
