Hi have replaced cambelt, water pump and thermostat on my diesel multipla. Filled the cooling system and ran it with the bleed valves open. The problem I have is the radiator is nearly stone cold. I've tried jacking it up and taking the bleed valve near the horn out to see if that works but that's not working. Anybody got any ideas as I'm completely stumped :/

Is there water in the rad itself? Try easing the bottom hose off for a second to see if water comes out.

Did you measure how much coolant you refilled with? Did the amount match with what's in the handbook/online?

You could also try running the engine with the reservoir cap and bleed valves loosened (NOT removed). This may help to purge air from the system if you vigorously squeeze the various rubber hoses. Also, don't forget the JTD is notorious for running cool. In the current cold weather, it may well be that the thermostat isn't opening fully (if at all), in which case the radiator won't get hot, no matter what you do.

My multipla has the rad with the hoses at the top. I will try running it the way you suggested. The thing is its running hotter according to the temple gauge than it was. I would. Really expect the rad to be at the least warm but this is completely cold.

There's a bleed screw in at the back aswell(follow hose from stat back around back of engine)
also worth bleeding it again when it's up to temp and the stat is open...
I blew into my water bottle with the engine hot and that bleed valve open the last time I bled mine.
I'll prob be doing it again soon....stat seems to be stuck open.
Marty.

Multipla cold radiator

Heater control on full heat too (fan off), get the water flowing through the whole system.
Can help to have the front higher than the rear too, jack it or have it on a slope.
