Problem - engine cutting out when warm, starts again after short break, (cooling down?) runs fine for while then cuts out again. This got gradually worse to the point that the car would not drive for more than 10 minutes or so, 5 minutes downtime then lucky if it would go for another 10 minutes before cutting out again. No fault codes stored. Totally unreliable and very frustrating. Changed crank (rpm) sensor today and all appears well now. RESULT for £18 (new).

Plenty of stuff on here about the procedure and I agree it is a fiddly but not difficult job, but haven't found any reference to a plastic bracket to which the sensor plug and other cables are attached. I simply removed the bracket's 13mm bolt, unclipped the cables from it using a long electrical flat screwdriver and PRESTO, the sensor plug wiring was much easier to reach! Instead of refitting the bracket I simply supported all the cables to each other with a cable tie, ensuring that the sensor cable was routed behind the sump dipstick pipe and through the plastic clip, (easy) attached to the pipe. This route ensures the cable will not contact the driveshaft below. Bracket in bin and easier to Fix It Again Tomorrow.
