First post and help needed.
Hi all.
I've had my 2001 multipla a month now and had no end of problems with it. Don't know if it's just mine or all of them lol.
When I got the car the back wheels were leaning inwards bad so I brought I used axle from a local scrap yard now had that fitted now ive only got one wheel leaning but it's not as bad as before so I'm not too fussed.
Anyway I keep hearing a rattle/banging from the off side front wheel so I jacked it up to check bushes etc all seemed fine tbh but while I had my head under I notice loads of oil where the gearbox meets the engine?? What could this be??
I also have a engine management light that comes on when I overtake on the motorway but it goes off again after about five minutes. Had it plugged in and it says egr code egr charging values. Can anyone help me out please?
Thanks

First off, you're going to have loads of problems with a 2001 multi that sounds like it hasnt been looked after, serviced, and fixed. Advice, give up now, its going to get expensive, and you will blame the multipla and tell everyone else that they are crap.
The rear suspension can fail and the wheels then lean bad, even one gone is a MOT fail.
Front suspension will make clonks as its pretty weak.
Check the tie rods, these go often, clonking like a good un, these are cheap, mine are changed almost every year, probably as I buy cheap from ebay, some are shockingly poor quality, also check anti roll bar bushes, these give deeper clonks.
Get a pre mot check done, they will find whats knocking.
Hope its not oil coming out of the engine crankshaft seal, gearbox out expensive.
EGR problem, maybe, just blank the bugger out with a £3 plate off ebay, nice easy job.
Hope this helps, most people probably havent replied as they see a minefield, and a lost cause, just my two pennethworth...

:yeahthat:

All of the questions you've asked have already been asked (and answered) many times over on the forum. Use the forum advanced search facility, limit the results to the Multipla section, and you'll find lots of useful information.

The only thing I'd add to MA's comments is check the smell of the oil coming off the bottom of the clutch bell housing. If it smells of gearbox oil (a very distinctive and not particularly pleasant odour), then the gearbox input shaft seal, and probably the bearing immediately behind it, is shot. If it smells of plain old engine oil, then it will be the big crankshaft oil seal that's gone. Either way, the time/labour cost to get it fixed far outweighs the cost of the parts.

Hi, thanks for your replies.
I love the multipla don't think it's a lost course lol, the oil on the bottom smells like engine oil but it's not leaking out(as in I've never got a puddle where I've parked) and I've never had to top the oil up since I had it so maybe I'm just been picky and there nothing up with it lol. I have had to top the coolent up a few times tho? I did take some pictures of underneath but don't know had to upload to here or if they would be any use? Lol
The engine runs fine, pulls well epcect on steap hills and it starts every time fine. I think it just needs tlc lol. I'm going stick with it anyways.

Ps there's no lights on the dash to say any things wrong lol just engine management when I'm overtaking
Thanks again for the replys any more info would be brilliant :)

New problem guys lol. I decided today to take off my egr valve and clean it. And possibly blank it I took the egr off it's allready blanked off lol. So dose anyone know why I'm getting the engine warning light when overtaking? And losing coolant? I had to the car plugged in and it says erg valve, valve charger thanks

Re: coolant leak, in my experience, it can be the oil cooler that the oil filter is screwed onto. Its made from an an alloy and is vulnerable to road gunk. Typically it develops a small hole in casting where the pipe fits onto. The leak is only small but persistent and tricky to trace.
