hi all,took car to garage today who said gearbox has leaked all oil from between gearbox and engine , gearbox needs to come off be sent off to a guy who will seal it,providing no faults inside gearbox will cost around 270

has anyone else had this problem and does this sound correct ??

True..that the gearbox has to come off..but the seal costs £20 max..the costs are labour for removing the gearbox and refitting

Might as well get the clutch changed while you are there..possibly dual mass flywheel as well..
Saves on it all coming off again!
Depending on milage done etc

ah i see he didnt mention fitting any new seals etc but i presume thats an automatic thing that has to be done!

he said gearbox off then sent to another bloke to seal it ?

i had visions of someone throwing a load of silicone around it lol, how much should i pay for clutch and mass fly wheel, i thought that wasa worn as if you change gear too fast sometimes its hard to get in gear and clunks,wait a second with clutch in and its fine

Looking at £230 ish for a clutch and flywheel.
I would at least change the clutch. They can be had for about £80

If the gearbox input shaft seal has gone, the bearing immediately behind it may well need to be replaced as well.

True...but I found it very difficult to separate the actual box. Ended up mashing the casing do ended up with a 2nd hand box
