Hello all and thanks for reading. The front section of my multipla 1.9 diesel (57 plate) exhaust has a hole. Simple to replace however my new and £300 cheaper than a Fiat original part does not have a port for the sensor that is going into the old pipe. I am getting an engine warning light so the sensor is detecting the blowing exhaust and loss of pressure I presume. My question is can I do without this sensor and if so how do I get rid of it?

I am afraid spending another £300 on an original fiat part is not an option so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The sensor is part of the engine management system, so you can't do without it I'm afraid.
Best bet would be to cut out the mounting boss and get it welded into the new section,
Shouldn't cost you more than £25-30 or so to get it done.
It'll be a ten minute job for a welder, as long as you do all the prep-work (cutting, drilling, grinding) so it's ready to weld.

Doesn't need to be cut/set into the new pipe precisely, just cut the boss out of the old pipe, leaving 10mm or so metal all the way round, clean up the edges, then drill a hole in the new pipe in the same position, a little larger than the actual sensor part.

Which part of the exhaust have you already bought then? Is it before or after the flexi?

Thanks for the ebay link by the way - that's well worth knowing about.

Sorry posted previous post twice, I brought the whole section which is complete I.e two rigid pipes with flexi between, the sensor sits on the long rigid bit so would need to chop out old flexi and put new one in seems a bit Heath robinson

It's usually that flex section that goes, same happened on mine (02 115 JTD), but there's no sensor on the earlier Diesel models.

I'd get the flex section, if the rest of the pipe section is OK, and if you can fit it yourself.
I doubt an exhaust place (Kwikfit/ATS) would charge much though, pop in and ask if needed.
