Funny you should ask.
I did the Alternator on my 1.9 JTD on Saturday. I did it on my back just jacked up both sides and put it on Stands.
I followed the suggestions from this forum, I moved the dipstick, this allowed me to lift the alternator back and down between the drive shaft and bulk head, Very tight and a bit of wiggling required. But I did not have to remove any thing else.
That said i did remove the front wheel, and inner plastic covers to get to the Alternator. The Alternator had cracks in the casing like a lot of the pictures i had seen, but it has done over 160 thousand so not too upset.
I did have a problem getting the replacement alternator through the gap as it was slightly bigger. :bang::bang::bang: I was in the middle of taking the back engine support off when I got my son to jack the engine between the gearbox and engine to take the weight. This lifted the engine just a little and the Alternator slipped through. Happy days.
I did have to move the inner spacers on the alternator and mounts to get lower bracket to fit. hammer and a long bar fixed that. :slayer:
The replacement Alternator cost me £119 with Delivery and a 18 months warranty.
Hope this helps
Andrew.
