The rear suspension arm bearings if you jack the car up and grab the wheel at 12 and 6 then push on the top and pull on the bottom simultaneously you will get some play they usually give you a lot of negative camber

I can tell you exactly. First the tyres rub and make a sweek when going round corners with rear passengers. After a few monts you'll get a load of crunhing noises. and more skweeking under lighter loads. then youll get all insundry pointing out you've got a problem lastly it will fail it's MOT. What you will have done is wear the seating for the seal in the swinging arm so a new one won't fit.

^^^ what heatrag said.
Mine started rubbing when i went round islands. I could see a rub mark on the arch liner. I ordered the new parts from a place in Poland which where loads cheaper than the UK. The company advertises on here.

I had the same problem with my 38k miles 58 plate nosejob. I have heard that some garages opt for replacing the whole swing arms - expensive route. My garage charged me £285 to replace the bearings on both sides.

it is a bit of a pain. My swing arm bolts wouldn't undo so i had to carefully cut them with a 1mm cutting disc. You have to cut between the arm and subframe. Disconnect brake hoses, handbrake cable and abs sensor (pig to remove so use loads of wd40).
Once the arm is off drift out the bearing races and install the new ones. The new ones have everything you need in the box.
Fit everything back up and then think 'oh s#%t, now I've got the other side to do. :)

oh.. Disconnect everything before you start cutting. Your bolts may undo so try that way first.

Suspension I guess also isn't ok. I think my subframe has corroded and the suspension is no longe connected properly. Knocking from the back is bad, but no rubbing from corners. I have a friend who is giving it the full once over (mechanic) so I can decide whether to scrap it or fix. It's a cat d (bent front bumper which only cost me 350 to fix) so is only worth scrap value. :-(

I've replaced about 3 rear bearing setups so far in the same way as Gavlar, horrid job, but I have a thin disc cutter and a hydraulic press which has come in handy for a few jobs.
Also tip no 23456 you could leave the abs sensor on, as it's very difficult to remove without damage, and disconnect the wiring into the connector under the sill, carpet, plastic cover area, through floor grommet...
Depends on your viewpoint wether to scrap it, and if the rest of the car is in good nick, like the clutch etc, as might be worthwhile saving the poor mongrel.

Interestingly, I took it to the garage and they told me that both bushes have gone. Also that my exhaust has gone (which I know about). They said once I'd got these fixed they'd MOT it to see if there's anything else that needs doing. Am hesitant as it's £350 to fix these even before anything else...

I think it might be time to say goodbye.

I have a good axle on my Multipla you can buy for £60, you will need to put your old axle back on my wreck afterwards as It needs to be mobile.
