The latest figures are up on the How Many Left site and they don't make good reading for the roundnose Multipla :

http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?utf8=✓&q=multipla

JTD 105's and 1.6's in particular are disappearing rapidly. More than a quarter of the remaining ones have gone in the past 12 months. The graphs are falling off a cliff. 437 110 ELX JTD's bit the dust in the same period.

The squarenosed ones are fairing better, but there weren't as many of those in the first place and they're obviously newer.

I reckon that in 10 to 20 years time the round nose will have the same status as the original vw camper.

I've still got mine!!! Getting on six years now and spent thousands keeping it alive! Just gone past 127000 miles had the cam belt and water pump replaced this morning. £79.00 for the parts on trader club and free labour!. Fancy something newer but got no money… maybe next year…. They are very high maintinance though and the quality of the after market parts can be poor.
2005 facelift 1.9 jtd 115bhp.

Interesting reading! Although the later round noses don't seem to be doing too bad, sad fact of modern life that newer cars don't have as a long a life as cars from around 20-30 years ago I think.

Like the sound of Multis being like a VW camper- so if I keep mine in a shed it will be worth a fortune in 10-20years haha! Seen the price of VW campers?

I prefer not to. My youngest (who turns 17 next year) has declared that he wants a Splitty as his first motor. Dream on, says I. Perhaps I can sell the Multi on to him as 'The New Splitty', especially as I've just bought myself a new toy....

The main problem with keeping the roundnose Multiplas on the road is that Fiat are pushing parts prices through the roof. I reckon they've more than doubled most of them in the past 3 years. For anyone considering long term ownership, it would be worth hoarding the 'Achilles Heel' parts if that trend continues. I'm sure some of the Chinese Zoyte parts will find their way onto the European market if Fiat continue raising prices. It's just a shame that they are squarenose-only.

The original Micra was designed to last 5 years by Nissan. Some are still going today.

Yes, sad about Fiat and parts, especially as they don't make anything like the Multi now (don't fancy a Doblo, and the big 500 looks like the fat version of the BMW Mini- not good IMHO)

So what parts should we hoard to keep our Multis going 20years?!

So what parts should we hoard to keep our Multis going 20years?!

Rear subframe; front crossrail (the one under the radiator); battery tray/shelf; possibly front wings (easy as they're bolt-on); NSF & OSF engine mounts; spare wheel winder mech; bracket for airbox; maybe the front-most box section (in front of the radiator) but that's tricky as it's welded in to the main spaceframe.

I'm sure there are other bits - I'll add them if they come to mind. I reckon the cost of the rear subframe (& its susceptibility to rust in the first place) is what's sending a lot of Multis to the scrapyard. If you get a good one, have it blasted and nylon powder coated, then you won't have to worry about it again. Clutch replacement is another killer.

You're right about there being nothing to replace the Multipla nowadays. That's why I'm keeping mine going. The packaging of the big 500 is shocking (n). The older Doblos look like they were designed by a committee that never bothered to meet :yuck:

Yes, well don't get me started on the New Minis....

Looking at the parts list, I might get a "spares car" Multi, or even a couple for those difficult bits...

Hang on- think I might have accidentally planned a Multi-only scrapyard- great idea!

Interesting thread. With regard to the value of split screen VW Transporters and the attraction these hold for young people, you could always put a piece of black PVC insulation tape vertically in the centre of your round nose's windscreen to simulate the split screen driving experience for your 17 year old son. That and putting marbles in the cam cover, disconnecting the exhaust and piping the fumes inside the car to simulate the rest of the T2 experience - and to finish - perhaps lighting a rag pushed in the open fuel filler to give that real Transporter Toast effect so beloved of owners.
I inherited my round nose from the wife of a late friend and put it back on the road after being stored [dumped full of rubbish] for two years. Since doing so, I have been given two others by people who have literally come up to me in the street. I do not believe this would happen if I was driving a split screen VW Transporter!
Regards
Stephen

I was about to write that I think you are safe in that Multipla's are unlikely to accelerate in value but when you think about the rust and all the other problems that the Transporter has, it was hard to see them ever becoming the retro design icon they have become. Maybe the Multipla will become valuable. By the way, I live in an area where there are a lot of Multipla's - I see about half a dozen every day and I always flash my headlights and chat to owners about them in the supermarket car park. All the yummy mummy's round our way must have bought them when new and swiftly moved onto large four wheel drive items leaving the bitter and twisted to buy them up and use as a van or get to work hack. I got one in a Waitrose car park when its owner who I engaged in a bit of banter said they had had enough - lights all over the dashboard and beeping like Roadrunner/limp mode/ the whole nine yards and it was mine if i wanted it provided i gave them a lift home in it as he never wanted to see the thing again and then the second came by way of a phone call from a neighbour whose friend had one they were going to dump and rather liked the thought of it going to a home for retired Multipla's. They drive past my house occasionally in their new car and point at their old car laughing. They do this frequently....
There must be a collective noun for Multipla's. How about A Whinge of Multipla's? Or Worry; Rattle; Beep; Groan. Take your pick.

Or a Multiplex, lol?

I will try and park next to some poorly looking Multis at Tesco! Although I think scrap prices are a bit higher now than they were making free cars less likely.

I am quite tempted to put my reg into WeBuyAnyCar for a laugh though!

Collective nouns... A blob?
